Architect Hiroyuki Shinozaki Oversees the Installation
Fritz Hansen commissioned seven design firms active on the world stage to reinterpret the Seven chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen and released in 1955, creating special Seven chairs. The Seven chairs, rebuilt by architects for "7 COOL ARCHITECTS" under specific guidelines, will embark on a global tour from London to Tokyo.
For the Tokyo exhibition, architect Hiroyuki Shinozaki, who garnered attention at this year's Milan Salone, will be responsible for the installation. The space will offer a distinct experience compared to the exhibitions in Europe.
A One-of-a-Kind Art Piece is Born
The Seven chair, a mid-century masterpiece designed by architect Arne Jacobsen, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone and explore new possibilities for the Seven chair, the "7 COOL ARCHITECTS" project was launched.
Unlike Arne Jacobsen's other works, the Seven chair was not designed for a specific architectural project, allowing it to be embraced in diverse spaces. In "7 COOL ARCHITECTS," seven globally renowned architectural firms—Jean Nouvel, BIG, Zaha Hadid, Snøhetta, Carlos Ott Architects & Carlos Ponce de León, Jun Igarashi Architects, and Neri & Hu—reinterpreted the Seven chair from their unique perspectives, creating one-of-a-kind art pieces.
Zaha Hadid's special edition Seven chair dynamically and seamlessly expresses structure and support. A sculptural base composed of two steel rods flows to the ground, extending upwards to embrace the iconic molded plywood seat.
Witness the seven architecturally inspired yet uniquely creative Seven chairs at AnyTokyo 2015.
