Maserati MC-20 Prototype Photos Released: A Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss

On May 14, Maserati released a second set of photos of its new sports car, the MC-20 prototype, following the initial release on March 5. The new images feature two Maserati racing cars, the "Eldorado" and "250F," side-by-side, paying homage to Sir Stirling Moss, who passed away on April 12.

First Adoption of a New Engine: 100% In-House Design, Development, and Production

The Maserati Eldorado, a single-seater racing car that debuted at Monza in 1958, served as the design inspiration for the MC-20 prototype.
The red car in the foreground is the "250F," and the white car in the background is the "Eldorado."
The other 250F is a legendary model that achieved a pole position and victory at the 1956 F1 Monaco Grand Prix, driven by Sir Stirling Moss. Moss competed in 66 Grand Prix races in the F1 World Championship, securing 16 wins. He is known as the "King of Uncrowned Champions" for narrowly missing the world title despite his remarkable record, with four second-place finishes and three third-place finishes. In the '56 and '57 seasons, he raced the 250F, his favorite machine, and was only defeated by Juan Manuel Fangio.
As a tribute to one of the greatest figures in motorsport history and his most brilliant chapter in Maserati's racing legacy, the MC-20's body bears Stirling Moss's "signature."
The arrival of the MC-20 holds significant meaning for Maserati, based in Modena. Not only does it mark the brand's return to racing since winning the GT1 World Championship with the MC-12 in 2010, but it also features the company's first new engine designed, developed, and produced entirely in-house.
It was no coincidence that the MC-20 prototype was chosen as a tribute to Stirling Moss; the model is said to re-emphasize Maserati's sporting prowess. The company suggests that if he had the chance to drive the MC-20, he undoubtedly would have chosen it as his favorite.
