Orders Open for New Defender's Pre-order Model, the "Launch Edition"
Jaguar Land Rover Japan announced on Sunday, November 3rd, that it will offer a limited run of 150 units of the "Launch Edition," a special specification model of the new Defender, as a pre-order model. Orders have now begun.
Two Types Available: The 3-Door "90" and the 5-Door "110"
The Defender, which made its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, has finally begun accepting orders in Japan. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the summer of 2020.
The Defender, Land Rover's iconic model, has undergone a full model change for the first time in 71 years. While the silhouette inherits that of the previous model, it adopts original features with a new design, such as the Alpine Light windows mounted at the rear of the roof, the side-opening rear tailgate, and the externally mounted spare tire.
Furthermore, its lightweight aluminum monocoque structure is said to be the most robust body structure in Land Rover's history.
The 150 units initially produced for the Japanese market, for which pre-orders are now open, will be available in two models: the "Defender 90 Launch Edition" and the "Defender 110 Launch Edition."
Both models are equipped with a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 300ps and a maximum torque of 400Nm. However, the 3-door "90" features coil suspension, while the 5-door "110" is paired with air suspension. Seat materials can be chosen from fabric or grained leather. The leather seat specification for the "110" offers three rows of seating for up to seven occupants.
The interior also debuts Jaguar Land Rover's new infotainment system, "Pivi Pro." In addition to enabling more intuitive operation, it supports software updates via wireless communication.
Sales figures and pricing are as follows: the 3-door "90" is limited to 15 units, with prices ranging from 4,890,000 to 7,675,000 yen. The 5-door "110" is limited to 135 units, with prices ranging from 5,967,000 to 7,675,000 yen. As a special gift for confirmed orders, a "LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender" will be provided.
