The iX xDrive50 Achieves a Range of 650 km on a Single Charge
The iX is a model developed by BMW with the next generation in mind, based on an SUV with an electric motor powertrain. It offers a driving range of 450-650 km on a full charge. The body dimensions are 4,995 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
The "iX xDrive50" powertrain features electric motors with a maximum output/torque of 190 kW/365 Nm for the front wheels and 230 kW/400 Nm for the rear wheels, delivering a total system output of 385 kW/765 Nm. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 303 Ah, providing a range of 650 km and an energy consumption rate of 190 Wh/km.
The "iX xDrive40" generates a total of 240 kW/630 Nm from electric motors with outputs of 190 kW/290 Nm and 200 kW/340 Nm, respectively. The battery capacity is 232 Ah, offering a range of 450 km and an energy consumption rate of 183 Wh/km.
With the latest charging technology, charging is possible at up to 150 kW with compatible DC fast chargers, and up to 11 kW with home or public AC chargers. Using a 150 kW DC fast charger, charging to approximately 80% takes under 40 minutes, enabling a long-distance drive of about 500 km. A 10-minute DC fast charge can extend the range by approximately 100 km. AC charging can fully charge the battery from 0 to 100% overnight (approximately 7 hours).
The exterior design concept is bold, modern, and minimalist. The kidney grille, a signature BMW design element, is enlarged to emphasize its character, while the adoption of the slimmest headlights in the BMW lineup creates a next-generation image.
The interior also incorporates many design elements that evoke the next generation. For the first time in a BMW model, the instrument cluster and control display are integrated into a single unit, enhancing the design. The curved display, with its gentle arc, improves operability and visibility. By eliminating many buttons and streamlining the air vents, the driver's area is kept uncluttered, while the signature BMW iDrive controller remains, as in other models.
The seats with integrated headrests and the spacious rear cabin, comfortable for five adults, are said to offer a relaxing environment akin to spending time in a high-quality lounge. Furthermore, with the optional First Class Package, controls for the electric seats, start/stop button, and iDrive controller are made of futuristic crystal.
The driving experience is enhanced with standard features such as the "4-wheel adaptive air suspension" and "integrated active steering" for rear-wheel steering. It also includes electric vehicle-specific equipment like the "heat comfort package" for maintaining a warm cabin in winter through surface heating technology, and "iconic sounds electric" which allows drivers to experience the "sheer driving pleasure" through sound, even in a silent electric car. Prices are 9.81 million yen for the iX xDrive40 and 11.16 million yen for the iX xDrive50.
