BMW has unveiled the "THE 8 X JEFF KOONS," a limited edition of 99 units worldwide, designed by globally renowned contemporary artist Jeff Koons. In Japan, only one unit will be released through an auction, with the entire proceeds donated to the volunteer organization "Make-A-Wish of Japan." The vehicle will be exhibited at Roppongi Hills on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Jeff Koons, who holds the record for the highest auction price among living artists, has designed an artistic limited-edition car, which has now been announced.
The "THE 8 X JEFF KOONS" is based on the "M850i xDrive Gran Coupé," characterized by its bold blue base with striking accents of yellow and graphical elements. Alongside pop art influences, it incorporates geometric patterns that pay homage to the complex contours and shape of the 8 Series Gran Coupé.
Jeff Koons commented, "The BMW 8 Series is a car that embodies my dreams. It was a truly special experience. Designing a special edition BMW has been a long-held dream." He further explained, "The car's lines grow larger as they extend from the hood to the trunk, creating a sense of forward motion, much like the design elements of 'POP!' or steam propulsion."
While "THE 8 X JEFF KOONS" is limited to 99 units globally, only one unit will be available in Japan. As a unique initiative for Japan, it will not be sold through dealerships or online but via a dedicated auction site, with the highest bidder receiving the car.
The entire auction price will be donated to the volunteer organization "Make-A-Wish of Japan." This organization grants the wishes of children aged 3 to under 18 who are battling serious illnesses, hoping to give them the strength to live and the courage to fight their diseases. The donated funds will be used to help fulfill their dreams.
In addition to its artistic exterior, the "THE 8 X JEFF KOONS" features the "M Light Shadow Line," the "BMW Individual Full Merino Leather interior," and 20-inch M Light Alloy Wheels. Furthermore, a certificate personally signed by Jeff Koons and BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse will be included with the vehicle.
Purchases can be made through the dedicated website. Bids will be accepted from Thursday, June 16, 2022, to Monday, June 27. Bids can be placed multiple times during this period, and the car will be delivered to the highest bidder as of 23:59 on Monday, June 27.
