Powertrain Improved for Better Fuel Efficiency
The Hilux, Japan's only domestically sold pickup truck reintroduced in 2017, has received a minor update.
The exterior features a large, trapezoidal grille on the front face, expressing robustness. A Japan-exclusive bumper guard garnish further enhances its active image. The slimmer grille connects to the headlamps, creating a wider appearance.
Inside, even the entry-level 'X' grade features Optitron meters and a 4.2-inch TFT color multi-information display for improved visibility. The meters themselves have been enhanced with chrome rings, further emphasizing the tough image.
The 2.4-liter diesel engine has also been refined, with the addition of an idling stop function. Fuel economy has improved from 11.8 km/L to 13.6 km/L in the JC08 mode, and 11.7 km/L in WLTC mode. Furthermore, suspension improvements and the addition of a "VFC" function to control power steering oil flow are said to enhance handling stability and ride comfort.
The higher-grade 'Z' model comes standard with safety features such as pre-crash safety and lane departure alert, along with a newly added clearance sonar & back sonar that alerts with visual and audible cues when approaching stationary objects. Additionally, "Auto LSD" has been introduced to appropriately distribute torque to the left and right drive wheels during cornering and on rough terrain.
The body color lineup includes five options, featuring two new colors: Oxide Bronze Metallic and Dark Blue Mica. Pricing starts at ¥3,471,000 for the X grade and ¥3,876,000 for the Z grade.
