Honda's contribution to coronavirus countermeasures includes vehicles to assist with the transport of patients with mild symptoms. Models such as the Odyssey and Step WGN have been modified with a partition between the driver's and rear seats, utilizing a pressure differential between the front and rear to suppress droplet transmission during transport, thereby reducing the risk of infection.
On April 13, vehicles were provided to Minato and Shibuya Wards, with deliveries planned for areas with high infection rates, such as within Tokyo. Production of the vehicles will begin at domestic plants, starting with the Saitama Plant (Sayama Factory).
Furthermore, by the end of May 2020, Honda will begin producing face shields, which are in high demand at medical facilities, at domestic plants such as the Monozukuri Center Tochigi and Suzuka. These will be provided free of charge to medical institutions.
Honda is also considering support for the production of ventilators and will continue to explore further measures to combat the coronavirus.
