The first "911" with a hybrid drive is finally here. Touted as a performance-focused hybrid, it will be unveiled after extensive development and a rigorous testing program.
"For the first time in its 61-year history, our icon will feature a hybrid drive system in a production 911. This innovative performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic," says Frank Moser, Vice President of the 911 and 718 model lines.
Testing is currently in its final stages in Dubai, with the vehicle having undergone trials under all conditions worldwide, simulating everything from extreme cold to scorching heat, and from urban streets to rural roads.
Moser also commented, "The new 911 has brilliantly overcome the most demanding challenges, whether in the harsh conditions of winding mountain passes with high drivetrain loads or in stop-and-go urban traffic. Our engineers and test drivers have logged over 5 million kilometers of development driving."
The adoption of a hybrid system also enhances performance. The lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which holds special significance in the development of the "911," was 7 minutes and 16.934 seconds, an improvement of 8.7 seconds over the previous model.
Incidentally, the driver who set this lap time was Jörg Bergmeister, a Porsche Brand Ambassador and professional racing driver. The test vehicle was equipped with standard road tires and an aero kit, which has been available as an option for several generations, featuring a fixed rear wing to increase downforce during high-speed driving.
Bergmeister commented, "The new 911 is significantly faster on the track. The improved grip, substantial increase in power, and the natural response of the performance hybrid are major advantages." This builds anticipation for the May 28 unveiling.
The digital world premiere will be broadcast on the Porsche Newsroom and the Porsche channel on YouTube, with on-demand viewing available afterward.
