New Porsche 911 Sport Classic Arrives, Inspired by the Carrera RS 2.7
On April 28, Porsche AG announced the new "Porsche 911 Sport Classic," the second of four planned Porsche Heritage Design models. It will be sold in a limited edition of 1,250 units worldwide.
Redefining Historic Design Elements
The exterior of the new Porsche 911 Sport Classic highlights a wide body reminiscent of the 911 Turbo, the legendary ducktail spoiler of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7, and a double-bubble roof.
In addition to Sport Grey, body colors include Black, Agate Grey, and Gentian Blue Metallic, with custom paint finishes also available to order. Furthermore, two stripes painted in Sport Grey run from the hood over the roof to the rear spoiler, further emphasizing the character of the 911 Sport Classic.
The interior features a houndstooth pattern, a hallmark of early 911s, adorning the door panels and the center sections of the seats. Black and Cognac two-tone leather, crafted from aniline leather, creates an elegant contrast with the exterior colors.
The 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine mounted at the rear produces a maximum output of 550 PS, making it the most powerful manual model in the current lineup. It drives the rear wheels through a 7-speed manual transmission. This gearbox features an automatic rev-matching function for downshifts and, combined with the specially developed standard sports exhaust system, delivers a more emotional sound befitting the Sport Classic.
The suspension is based on the 911 Turbo and GTS series, optimized for its high performance. The standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) instantly adjusts the shock absorber stiffness according to driving conditions, and a sports suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 mm is also standard, just like the PASM.
Alexander Fäbricius, who oversees Porsche Classic and Exclusive Manufaktur, commented, "The Heritage Design models are born from the most emotional concepts within Porsche's product strategy. For these unique models, Porsche's design department and Exclusive Manufaktur are redefining the exteriors of iconic 911s from past generations, along with the equipment and design from the 1950s to the 1980s."
Among the Heritage Design models, with four releases planned, the "911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition," incorporating design elements from the 1950s and 1960s, was released in 2020. The first 911 Sport Classic, from the Type 997 generation that debuted in 2009, was a model inspired by the first-generation 911 produced from 1964 to 1973 and the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 announced in 1972. It was painted in Fashion Grey, a color often seen on early Porsche 356 models.
