Jaguar Land Rover's New UK Manufacturing and Development Centre
In September 2019, Jaguar Land Rover established the "Advanced Product Creation Centre" in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK. This facility is the largest and most sustainable automotive manufacturing and development centre in the country. Up to 20 percent of the energy used will be supplied by approximately 3,000 square meters of solar panels installed on the roof, with the remainder sourced from 100 percent renewable resources.
Up to 20% of Energy from Rooftop Solar Panels
The centre boasts a site area of 4 million square meters, equivalent to 480 football fields, and is the company's first facility to integrate design, engineering, and purchasing.
Furthermore, over 50,000 square meters of innovative workspace have been added to foster collaboration among employees throughout the entire vehicle development process, from sketch to showroom. The newly established "Jaguar Design Studio" will also bring together the design departments of Jaguar and Land Rover within the same facility for the first time.
Approximately 13,000 skilled engineers and designers are based here, responsible for the development of current and next-generation Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. They will also be engaged in work focused on ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electric, Shared) for long-term, sustainable growth.
The new office is designed to be highly energy-efficient, incorporating natural light into the building through glass technology similar to that used at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. It achieves a rating within the top 10 percent of the most sustainable commercial buildings in the UK by sourcing up to 20 percent of its energy from approximately 3,000 square meters of rooftop solar panels and the remainder from 100 percent renewable resources.
Additionally, the central green space within the workspace utilizes 80,000 cubic meters of natural soil—excavated during construction and equivalent to 30 Olympic swimming pools—repurposed to create a biodiverse and natural landscape.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Sir Ralf Speth commented, "Megatrends such as urbanization and sustainability are fundamentally transforming the automotive industry. It is important for us not only to adapt to these trends but also to create the mobility of the future. Our vision is a world where zero-emission vehicles, public transport, and autonomous pods are seamlessly integrated into a networked transportation system."
He further stated that the investment in this facility was made to provide an environment that inspires future growth and employees, adding, "We are constantly investing in the future with our 'Destination ZERO' initiative."
