Ferrari Unveils the 830hp Hybrid Spider "296 GTS"

On April 19, Ferrari announced the "296 GTS," its latest mid-engine spider. This is the open-top version of the PHEV coupe "296 GTB" that debuted earlier, boasting a maximum output of 830hp.

The 296 GTS is powered by a new 2,992cc, 120° V6 twin-turbo engine producing 663hp, combined with a 167hp electric motor. The total output is a class-leading 830hp, marking the first time a V6 engine has been used in a road-going Ferrari spider.
The transmission is an 8-speed F1 DCT, driving the rear wheels. The electric motor and ICE (engine) are coordinated by the Transition Manager Actuator (TMA), allowing for 25km of electric-only driving when disconnected. This V6 engine, the first in the F163 engine family, was nicknamed "Piccolo V12" (Little V12) during development and transmits a high-pitched engine sound into the cabin via redesigned "hot tubes."
Performance figures include a top speed of 330 km/h, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.6 seconds, and a Fiorano (Ferrari's test track) lap time of 1 minute 21.80 seconds. In addition to the traditional Manettino, the drive modes include an eManettino for power management. The eManettino has four positions, selectable via the steering wheel:
• eDrive: The internal combustion engine is off, and the rear wheels are driven purely by electricity. With a fully charged battery, it can travel 25 km at a maximum speed of 135 km/h.
• Hybrid (H): The default mode upon startup. The power flow is managed to maximize efficiency, and the control logic determines when the internal combustion engine intervenes. When the engine is running, the vehicle's maximum power and performance are unleashed.
• Performance: The ICE is always active to maintain battery efficiency, ensuring full power is available at all times. This setting is ideal for aggressive driving.
• Qualify: Maximizes performance by limiting battery recharging.
The 296 GTS measures 4,565mm in length, 1,958mm in width, and 1,191mm in height, with a dry weight of 1,540kg. Its signature retractable hardtop (RHT) creates a sleek, sporty impression when retracted, closely mirroring the silhouette of the 296 GTB.
The lightweight RHT can open or close in just 14 seconds, even while driving at speeds up to 45 km/h. The body and roof separate above the B-pillar, folding flat in two sections in front of the engine. This design preserves the engine bay's thermal characteristics and maintains the overall balance of the car. It also allows for a window in the rear section of the engine cover, offering a clear view of the new V6 engine.
The model's name follows Ferrari's proud tradition, combining the displacement (2.9 liters) and number of cylinders (6) with GTS, the acronym for Gran Turismo Spider. Additionally, an "Assetto Fiorano" package is available for owners who wish to maximize the car's ultimate power and performance. This package prioritizes maximum performance with an 8kg weight reduction and aerodynamic enhancements.
