Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced the launch of two high-performance SUV models, the "AMG GLA 35 4MATIC" and "AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+", for the GLA. Sales have begun.

GLA 45 S Features World's Most Powerful 421hp, 500Nm 2.0-Liter 4-Cylinder Turbo Engine
Two high-performance grades have been added to the GLA, which debuted in 2014 and underwent its first full model change in 2020.
The "GLA 35," developed with a focus on enjoyable driving on public roads, is the fifth model in the "Mercedes-AMG 35" series. It is powered by the "M260" 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 225kW (306ps) and a maximum torque of 400Nm.

While achieving high-level driving performance through features such as the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system for ample traction, chassis reinforcement, and the "AMG Ride Control" suspension with three selectable modes, it was developed to not compromise comfort.
Meanwhile, the "GLA 45 S" is equipped with the "M139" engine, which produces a world-leading 421hp and a maximum torque of 500Nm for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is hand-assembled from start to finish by a single master craftsman at Mercedes-AMG headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany.

Furthermore, unlike previous designs, this engine features a layout where the turbocharger and exhaust manifold are positioned at the rear of the engine, and the intake system, including the intake manifold, is at the front. This allows for a lower engine placement, which not only benefits handling but also provides aerodynamic advantages.
In addition, it is equipped with the performance-oriented, torque-variable AMG 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. With six drive modes and independently selectable ESP settings in three patterns, the model embodies the Mercedes-AMG slogan "Driving Performance" with the latest technology generously incorporated in every aspect.
The price for the "GLA 35" is 7.07 million yen, and for the "GLA 45 S" it is 9 million yen.
