Announcing the "Q4 Sportback e-tron Concept," an Electric SUV Coupe
Audi has unveiled the "Q4 Sportback e-tron concept," a four-door SUV coupe version of the pure EV "Audi Q4 e-tron." Production is slated to begin in 2021.
50:50 Front-Rear Weight Distribution for Sporty, Precise Handling
The Sportback body measures 4,600mm long, 1,900mm wide, and 1,600mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,770mm. The exterior is characterized by a roofline that slopes towards the rear and flows into the D-pillar, an octagonal single-frame grille, a wide light band connecting the left and right rear lamps, and large fenders, inherited from the 1980s Audi quattro models, that emphasize the four 22-inch wheels. The body color is a new kinetic gray, combining bright metallic and pearl effects.
The interior features a spacious cabin due to the absence of a transmission tunnel, floor coverings made from recycled materials, a virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a center console without a shift lever or parking brake lever.
The Q4 Sportback e-tron concept utilizes the modular electrification platform (MEB), designed exclusively for electric vehicles, which supports a wide range of drive types and power levels. It is equipped with a high-performance electric drive system (electric quattro system) that powers both the front and rear axles.
The electric motors produce 75kW/150Nm at the front and 150kW/310Nm at the rear, for a combined system output of 225kW. Performance figures are a 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h (electronically limited). The 510kg, 82kWh battery, located under the floor, provides a range of 450km (WLTP cycle). With a 125kW fast charger, the battery can be charged to 80% capacity in approximately 30 minutes.
The ideal 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, achieved by the battery positioned between the front and rear axles, ensures sporty and precise handling. The suspension consists of McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup with separate springs and adaptive dampers at the rear.
Audi plans to begin production of the mass-produced versions of both the SUV Q4 e-tron concept and this SUV coupe variant in 2021. Furthermore, the company aims to electrify its lineup across all segments, from compact to luxury, with the goal of having electric models account for approximately 40% of total sales by 2025.
