At the Shanghai Auto Show, Lexus unveiled the new "LM," signifying "Luxury Mover."
The first-generation LM was launched in 2020, primarily to meet the demand for chauffeur-driven MPVs in China and other Asian regions. In response to evolving values in the luxury market, the completely redesigned new model has now been announced.
With the new LM, the development team aimed to embody the concept of "a mobile sanctuary for true relaxation" by enhancing quietness and creating a serene environment.
For ride comfort, the chassis has been reinforced. The radiator support brace and rocker straight structure, among other enhancements, achieve approximately 1.5 times the body torsional rigidity compared to the previous model, fulfilling the "refinement of inherent quality" that Lexus has consistently pursued. Additionally, structural adhesives used in the upper body and floor contribute to reduced vibrations.
The seats have also been refined. In the front, the seat surface pressure distribution is optimized to hold the body securely, regardless of the magnitude of G-forces during cornering. This pursuit aims for a comfortable seating experience that reduces fatigue and fosters an environment conducive to focusing on the drive.
The second-row seats utilize two types of shock-absorbing materials to provide support while gently enveloping occupants. The third-row seats are designed with thicker seatbacks and cushions to ensure ample space for adults.
Additionally, Lexus introduces for the first time the "AVS with frequency-sensitive variable damping valves" for fine-tuned vibration reduction across a wide range of frequencies, and the "Rear Comfort" drive mode select, prioritizing rear-seat comfort.
To cater to relaxation and business needs, the interior offers a total of 64 ambient lighting options, including 14 illumination colors and 50 custom colors. The rear seats are equipped with a detachable touch controller that manages seat positions, sunshades, and more, supporting the optimal cabin environment for occupants through the "Rear Climate Concierge."
The seating configurations include a three-row, six-seater and a seven-seater. Additionally, a four-seater variant is available, designed for chauffeur-driven use. A partition is installed between the front and rear seats, featuring an upper section with a retractable smoked glass, balancing privacy with an open feel.
Furthermore, a large 48-inch wide display is available, enabling diverse uses such as online business meetings and entertainment, tailored to various scenarios.
The new LM is scheduled for introduction in Japan around the fall of 2023. Sales will commence with the four-seater model, equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo hybrid system.
