The 718 Spyder RS, the open-top counterpart to the coupe 718 Cayman GT4 RS, has arrived.
At its heart lies a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated, six-cylinder boxer engine, mounted midship, which is also found in the 911 GT3. This marks the first time this engine has been installed in an open-top, mid-engined sports car.
It produces a maximum output of 368 kW (500 PS) and peak torque of 450 Nm. Mated to a close-ratio 7-speed PDK transmission, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
Compared to the 718 Spyder without the "RS" designation, maximum output is up by 59 kW (80 PS), 0-100 km/h acceleration is 0.5 seconds quicker, and top speed increases from 300 km/h to 308 km/h.
The roof is an ultra-lightweight, manually operated soft-top designed to allow full enjoyment of the engine's sound and contribute to weight reduction. It consists of two parts – a sun sail and a weather deflector – both of which can be removed entirely.
The combined weight of these roof sections is 18.3 kg, making it 7.6 kg lighter than the 718 Spyder and a significant 16.5 kg lighter than the 718 Boxster. Removing the top completely can shave off an additional 8 kg.
The chassis utilizes components from the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Spyder, featuring a standard sports-tuned Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. The ride height has been lowered by 30 mm.
Additional features include Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD), ball-joint suspension bearings, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
Furthermore, the ride height, camber, tread, and stabilizers are all individually adjustable. Compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the spring rates and damper rates have been reduced, resulting in a characteristically relaxed convertible setup.
The interior is performance-oriented, featuring an RS Sport steering wheel with a yellow 12 o'clock marker and standard lightweight CFRP full bucket seats that offer exceptional lateral support. The seat covers are black leather, with the "Spyder RS" logo embroidered in a contrasting color on the headrests.
Body color options include the new Vanadium Grey Metallic, as well as four solid colors and three metallic colors, such as the special Arctic Grey, Shark Blue, and Ruby Star Neo. Steering can be selected in either left-hand or right-hand drive. The price is ¥20.24 million.
