On Tuesday, October 15, Toyota announced the Copen GR Sport, a light-class open-top sports car, and began sales.

Toyota and Daihatsu have joined forces to introduce the Copen GR Sport, a light-class, two-seater open-top sports model and the first in the "GR" sports car series offered by Toyota Gazoo Racing.

The Copen GR Sport, which serves as an entry-level model for GR, was developed with a focus on tuning the body rigidity and suspension. Toyota claims that optimal body rigidity balance has been achieved through measures such as adding a front brace and altering the shape of the center brace.

Furthermore, the spring rates of the suspension have been optimized, and the electric power steering has also been specially tuned. This, they say, creates a sense of unity between steering inputs and the car's movements.

The design features the "GR" signature "Function Matrix" grille, characterized by its horizontal and vertical lines, on the front face. A large, open lower grille contributes to improved cooling performance, while the front bumper, designed to enhance driving dynamics, creates a sharp, aggressive look, emphasizing a wide and low stance. Aerodynamic performance is further improved through extensions on the sides of the bumper and the addition of front bumper air outlets.

The interior is equipped with exclusive Recaro seats and original self-illuminating triple meters, while piano black-finish decorative trim on the center cluster adds a touch of premium ambiance. The electric-folding "Active Top" retractable hardtop is standard equipment.

The powertrain is a 660cc turbo, driving the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed CVT with paddle shifters.

Eight body colors are available. Prices are ¥2,435,000 for the MT model and ¥2,380,000 for the CVT model.
