Honda Civic World Premiere | HONDA
CVT and 6MT Transmission
The powertrain is a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder VTEC Turbo, producing a maximum output of 134 kW (182 PS) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 240 Nm at 1,700-4,500 rpm. Both the EX and LX grades offer a choice between a CVT and a 6-speed manual transmission.
The CVT features step-up/down control and allows selection of three drive modes: ECON, Normal, and SPORT. The 6-speed manual transmission offers a satisfyingly engaging driving experience with its short-stroke shifter and a wide gear ratio range, balancing acceleration performance with fuel efficiency.
In terms of driving dynamics, the use of structural adhesive, 9.5 times longer than in the previous model, along with the incorporation of aluminum and high-tensile steel, has improved torsional rigidity by 19%. Furthermore, the 35mm longer wheelbase and the 12mm wider front and rear tracks enhance straight-line stability and cornering performance.
To address the road noise that was a minor concern in the previous model, noise-reducing wheels that cancel tire resonance have been adopted, and sound insulation and absorption materials have been effectively used based on analysis of vibration transmission paths. This has resulted in an interior space where occupants can enjoy communication and entertainment systems (a 9.0-inch multi-information display audio system, similar to the Vezel's).
The advanced safety system, Honda Sensing, now features a wide-view (100°) front camera, an upgrade from the previous monocular camera (50°), enhancing its ability to recognize lane markings, road boundaries (like curbs), vehicles, and pedestrians. By combining this with sonar and radar, Honda claims to offer intuitive driver assistance that is on par with European luxury models, providing peace of mind for all drivers at all times.
At the end of the presentation, it was announced that the "e:HEV" model and the high-performance "Type R" will be launched in 2022.
