Cadillac Unveils the All-Electric Lyriq Globally
On August 7, Cadillac announced the Lyriq, a new luxury crossover that is fully electric.
300-Mile Range on a Full Charge
The Lyriq is Cadillac's first electrified model, and it is characterized by its Ultium drive system, based on GM's next-generation EV modular platform.
This new modular EV platform, which uses a dedicated EV platform, eliminates the physical constraints of adapting an electric drive system to a conventional vehicle structure, offering greater range, a more engaging driving experience, and new possibilities for occupant space. The placement of the battery pack allows for a low center of gravity and a 50:50 weight distribution, enabling sporty, responsive, and agile driving.
While primarily rear-wheel drive (RWD), an optional performance AWD is also available. It can transmit more torque to the pavement without wheelspin, delivering exhilarating acceleration and superior cornering ability.
The new Ultium battery system uses a cutting-edge NCMA (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Aluminum) compound that utilizes aluminum in the cathode, reducing the use of rare earth materials such as cobalt. It supplies approximately 100 kWh of energy, achieving a range of 300 miles (480 km) on a full charge.
Charging options include methods suitable for various uses, such as at home, at work, or on the go, including DC fast charging at 150 kW or higher, and Level 2 AC charging with a maximum output of 19 kW.
The exterior features a bold design that expresses a new front fascia, proportions, and presence befitting the brand's next-generation EVs. The black crystal grille at the front greets the owner with a dramatic lighting display as they approach the vehicle, with vertically oriented, slim LED signature lighting. The side profile emphasizes agility with a roofline that slopes gently downward towards the rear and a wide stance. The aerodynamic design also enhances driving efficiency on highways.
The interior adopts a spacious, minimalist design. The new dual-plane augmented reality (AR) capable head-up display features two display surfaces: a near plane showing vehicle speed and directions, and a far plane displaying transparent navigation signals and other important warnings. The vehicle's interior acoustics have also been addressed. A new road noise cancellation technology, featuring numerous microphones and accelerometers, is adopted for the first time to reduce in-cabin noise, enabling a quieter ride experience.
For safety, it is equipped with the latest version of the hands-free driving assistance system, "Super Cruise," which includes automatic lane changing, and "Supervised Remote Parking," which uses ultrasonic sensors to assist with parking maneuvers parallel or perpendicular to the road, regardless of whether the driver is inside or outside the vehicle.
The timing of its introduction in Japan has not yet been determined.
