A Convertible Model Joins the M4, Whose Main Stage is the Circuit
BMW has added the convertible "M4 Cabriolet Competition M xDrive" to its M4 lineup of M high-performance models and begun sales.
Canvas Soft Top Opens in Approximately 18 Seconds
Among BMW M's M models, the "M4 Cabriolet Competition M xDrive" has been born, a model that allows you to enjoy open-air driving by incorporating the technology cultivated on the circuit to enhance driving performance.
The roof features a canvas soft top that can be opened in approximately 18 seconds from a closed state. The exterior boasts a powerful, vertically oriented large kidney grille at the front, with double bars horizontally. Large air intakes, designed to enhance engine cooling for high output, differentiate it from other models.
The rear also incorporates an M Sport exhaust and a diffuser to improve aerodynamics, while the wide track creates a style befitting a high-performance model. Additionally, it comes standard with M-specific side gills, door mirrors, and a rear spoiler for downforce.
The interior features M Sport seats, door sills illuminated with the M logo, an instrument panel designed exclusively for M models, and an M-specific steering wheel. M Carbon bucket seats, more suited for sporty driving, are also available as an option.
The power unit incorporates numerous technologies honed on the circuit, such as intake ducts that minimize pressure loss and airflow resistance for optimized response, and forged pistons that ensure stable power delivery up to high RPMs.
The 3-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo gasoline engine produces a maximum output of 375 kW (510 hp) and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. Power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and BMW's M-specific all-wheel-drive system, "M xDrive." It achieves 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
Furthermore, lightweight construction is achieved through the extensive use of aluminum in various parts of the drivetrain, including the body. The standard M Adaptive Suspension enhances not only sporty driving but also ride comfort during city driving.
Driving modes include "4WD Mode" and "4WD Sport Mode" for comfortable driving from the circuit to the city, as well as a "2WD Mode" for rear-wheel drive, allowing drivers to directly experience the joy of controlling the vehicle.
Safety features include a traffic jam assistant with a hands-off function for driving without holding the steering wheel, and the "Driving Assistant Plus" safety and driver assistance system as standard. Notably, the parking assistant includes a Reversing Assistant function that records the vehicle's forward path up to 50 meters and can accurately retrace the same route in reverse.
The infotainment system features the "BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant." In addition to "OK, BMW," you can also set a custom wake-up phrase, such as "4 Series," allowing it to understand driver commands and questions in a more natural conversational manner, connecting to appropriate functions and services, and acting as an in-car partner.
The price of the "M4 Cabriolet Competition M xDrive" is 14.33 million yen. Delivery is scheduled to begin in September 2021.
