Renewed FC System Pursues a More Dynamic Drive

The Mirai, an FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) launched in 2014, will undergo a full model change in 2020. The Mirai Concept, a final development model, will be revealed for the first time in the world at the Tokyo Motor Show 2019.
The exterior achieves a low center of gravity by adopting the TNGA platform, pursuing an emotional styling. Large 20-inch wheels are fitted, and a new "Force Blue Multiplex" body color, designed to stimulate a sporty mindset, has been developed.
The interior features a driver-wrapping instrument panel and a center cluster incorporating a 12.3-inch wide monitor. The seating capacity has been increased from the previous four to five people in the new model.
The powertrain features a renewed FC system. While improving performance, development is underway with the goal of extending the cruising range by approximately 30 percent compared to the previous model through increased hydrogen storage capacity and other enhancements.
In addition to adopting the TNGA platform, Toyota states that development is ongoing to achieve an unprecedented dynamic feel, combining the quietness and rigidity unique to FCVs with a smooth start and responsive acceleration.
The new Mirai is scheduled for release at the end of 2020. The Tokyo Motor Show 2019 will hold press days on October 23 (Wed) and 24 (Thu). It will be open to the public from September 25 (Fri) to November 4 (Mon, holiday).
