First "M" Motorcycle Unveiled: The M1000RR
BMW has announced the "M1000RR," its first motorcycle model bearing the M designation.
A High-Performance Model Based on the S1000RR, Infused with M Technology
The arrival of the "M1000RR," based on the current "S1000RR" and bearing BMW's performance-oriented "M" badge, has been announced.
BMW began offering M vehicles for motorcycles in 2018, providing M option equipment and performance parts. The "M1000RR," set to make its world premiere, is the first M model motorcycle based on the "S1000RR."
The engine, based on the liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine found in the "S1000RR," has been tuned for a racing sports engine. Featuring BMW ShiftCam technology for variable valve timing and lift, the maximum output has been increased to 156 kW (212 hp), with a maximum torque of 113 Nm.
The maximum rotational speed has been raised to 15,100 rpm, and technology has been optimized for the "M1000RR," including new Mahle two-ring forged pistons, combustion chamber modifications, and an increased compression ratio of 13.5.
In terms of aerodynamics, M winglets made of clear-coated carbon for the front trim have been developed to maximize wheel contact with the road, especially during acceleration. These generate downforce according to speed, increasing wheel load. This increased wheel load counteracts wheelies, reduces traction control intervention, and converts more drive power into acceleration, leading to shorter lap times.
BMW also states that the M winglets enable later braking due to downforce and improve cornering stability.
The chassis is based on the "S1000RR," featuring an aluminum bridge frame as the centerpiece. The upside-down forks have been optimized, and the central spring strut has been revised with a blue spring and integrated Full Floater Pro kinematics.
The "M1000RR" is equipped with M technology throughout, including the first-ever M brakes on a BMW motorcycle. While specifications for the Japanese market and the introduction timing are yet to be determined, we eagerly anticipate its arrival.
