Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced the "G 450 d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s (ISG)," a special edition model paying homage to the original G-Class. Production is limited to 460 units worldwide, a nod to the original model code "W 460," with a total of 100 units to be introduced in Japan.

Three Original 1980s Optional Colors Reissued

The "G 450 d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s (ISG)" was conceived to commemorate the G-Class reaching a total production of 500,000 units in 2023.
Inspired by the 280GE, the first-generation "W460" G-Class that built the model's long history, this special edition uniquely blends 1980s design elements with modern technology.
The body colors are reissued versions of three optional colors available for the original G-Class.
Complementing these body colors, the iconic G-Class turn signals are finished in orange, a popular choice in the 1980s. The classic silhouette is further emphasized with matte black accents on the front face, bumper, and wheel arches.
Details meticulously echo the 280GE's essence, including 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, a "Mercedes-Benz" rear badge on a silver plate using genuine 1980s parts, and a spare tire cover with a dedicated design.
The interior also features elements reminiscent of the era's design. The distinctive seat design, crafted from the leather and dove grey fabric used in the G-Class since its 1979 debut, is revived for the modern age.
The passenger-side grab handle is engraved with "STRONGER THAN THE 1980s," while the center console bears the "1 of 460" inscription, emphasizing the model's exclusivity as one of only 460 units worldwide.
The front illuminated step cover depicts the topography of Mount Schöckl, located near Graz, Austria, where the G-Class is manufactured and has served as its test track since its inception. The terrain of this mountain, featuring challenging off-road courses, is also illustrated.
A "Schöckl Proved" badge, signifying successful completion of tests on this course, is presented in a special design and fitted to the B-pillar, tailored to each body color.
Further enhancing its off-roader aesthetic, the Professional Line equipment includes rear professional mud flaps and all-terrain tires as standard. Additionally, items that allow enjoyment of the G-Class world, such as "G" logo projectors and door buttons, are also included.
The engine is a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel turbo, producing a maximum output of 270 kW (367 hp) and a peak torque of 750 Nm, combined with the mild-hybrid system ISG.
The Japanese allocation is limited to 100 units in total: 55 units of MANUFAKTUR Agave Green, 25 units of MANUFAKTUR Creamy White, and 20 units of MANUFAKTUR Colorado Beige. Applications are being accepted by Mercedes-Benz Japan until July 17th; a lottery will be held if applications exceed the number of units available.
All models feature left-hand drive and are priced at 27 million yen.
