The Ultimate Rear Seat: Ride Comfort, Quietness, and Refinement

The first-generation Lexus LM, the brand's first MPV, was born in 2020 to meet the demand for chauffeur-driven MPVs in China and other Asian regions. The name "LM" stands for "Luxury Mover," embodying Lexus's unique take on luxury.
The second-generation model was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2023, and this new flagship model, proposed by Lexus, is finally being introduced to the Japanese market.
The new model has been completely redesigned, re-evaluating the value and purpose of the "Luxury Mover." Lexus aimed to create a ride and interior space where all occupants can relax naturally.
Contributing to the flagship-worthy ride quality is the newly designed GA-K platform. The new LM embodies the "refinement of inherent quality" that Lexus has consistently pursued, featuring approximately 1.5 times the body torsional rigidity of the previous model, along with weight reduction and reduced inertial mass.
Furthermore, the seat structure, developed through thorough analysis of occupant body movements, aims to reduce head sway and stabilize vision. By employing a three-step approach of reducing source noise, sound insulation, and sound absorption, the design creates a refined ride and a sense of quietness.
The seats are a four-seat configuration specifically designed for chauffeur-driven use, featuring a partition that balances privacy and openness. A newly developed 48-inch wide display is also equipped, catering to various usage scenarios such as remote meetings and video viewing within the vehicle.
The seats include a massage function and a detachable touch-controller type rear multi-operation panel. When reclined using the ottoman, it's possible to lie down. A refrigerator is also integrated below the center of the partition, capable of holding three champagne bottles or six 500mL PET bottles, creating an exceptionally accommodating space.
Meanwhile, the front seats also inherit Lexus's "Tazuna Concept" cockpit philosophy, expressing a modern and expansive space. To ensure the driver can concentrate on driving and operate the vehicle intuitively, driving-related functions are concentrated around the steering wheel.
The powertrain features a hybrid system with a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine. The entire system produces a maximum output of 273 kW (371 hp), with a maximum torque of 460 Nm from the engine, 292 Nm from the front motor, and 168.5 Nm from the rear motor. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The exterior design further evolves Lexus's signature spindle body. By reducing the step differences between the front grille, hood, headlamps, and bumper, and integrating them more seamlessly with the body, the design facilitates smooth airflow over the body's surface and sides, contributing to aerodynamic performance, cooling efficiency, and driving stability.
The safety equipment includes Lexus's latest "Lexus Safety System +," featuring functions such as a drive recorder and pre-collision safety. "Lexus Teammate" is also equipped, incorporating Advanced Drive to assist with driving in traffic congestion on highways and Advanced Park for parking assistance.
The price for the four-seat "LM500h" announced this time is 20 million yen. Sales are scheduled to commence around late December.
