The C-HR debuted in 2016. This update focuses on safety equipment. The "Toyota Safety Sense" pre-collision safety package now includes new functionality to detect pedestrians at night, cyclists during the day, oncoming vehicles when turning right at intersections, and pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction when turning right or left.

Additionally, a "Low-Speed Acceleration Control" function has been added, which suppresses acceleration by limiting engine output or applying light braking when the accelerator pedal is pressed more than necessary while an object is detected ahead and the vehicle is stopped or moving slowly. The "Emergency Steering Assist" function, a first for Toyota in Japan, has also been incorporated.
Furthermore, all models now come standard with Lane Tracing Assist, which supports steering to maintain the vehicle's position in the center of the lane during Radar Cruise Control operation; Road Sign Assist, which displays recognized road signs on the display to reduce missed signs and encourage safe driving; and a Back Guide Monitor.

Concurrently, comfort features such as heated front seats and electric lumbar support are now standard on the "G," "GT," "S" GR SPORT," and the newly introduced "S-T" GR SPORT" models, which feature a new 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic transmission.

The newly established special edition, the "G-T" Mode Nero Safety Plus," features a cool aesthetic with black accents on the exterior's front spoiler and alloy wheels, as well as a predominantly black interior for the seats and instrument panel.
Safety features include a Panoramic View Monitor, which displays a bird's-eye view of the vehicle's surroundings on the display to aid in confirming the safety of areas with limited visibility, and "Parking Support Brake" with Intelligent Clearance Sonar, which helps mitigate collision damage from unintended acceleration or excessive pedal application in parking lots. Rear approaching vehicle detection for Parking Support Brake is also included as a special equipment.
The body colors include five monotone options, one of which is the special edition Dark Blue Mica, and three two-tone options. The price is the same as the base "G" and "G-T" models: 2,715,000 yen for the 1.2-liter turbo FF, 2,913,000 yen for the 4WD, and 3,045,000 yen for the hybrid model.
The price range for the standard C-HR is from 2,382,000 yen to 3,013,000 yen for the 1.2-liter turbo models, and from 2,745,000 yen to 3,145,000 yen for the hybrid models.
