The Ducato, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2020 and is known as a light commercial vehicle in Europe, is arriving in Japan as a stylish campervan.
As evidenced by its debut in Japan at the "Japan Camping Car Show 2022," the Ducato's introduction to the Japanese market was decided to meet the demands of the thriving campervan sector. Sales are expected to be conducted through official dealers to conversion companies and other corporate entities.
The models being introduced to Japan are the standard "L2H2" (overall length 5,413 x width 2,050 x height 2,524mm), the long-wheelbase version "L3H2" (5,998 x 2,050 x 2,524mm), and the long-wheelbase high-roof specification "L3H3" (5,998 x 2,050 x 2,764mm).
All models are designed to accommodate leisure layouts and efficient walk-through layouts for commercial use, and are equipped with a sliding side door with a wide opening and rear doors that open sideways.
The redesigned body features a large grille, a new skid plate, and the iconic Fiat emblem signifying its manufacture at the Stellantis plant in Atessa, Italy. The headlights are full LED, offering over 30% more brightness than traditional halogens.
The interior is designed for comfort, creating a clean and uncluttered cabin. It includes a charging compartment for wireless smartphone charging, two USB-A ports, a USB-C port, and a power outlet.
The driver and front passenger seats are independent captain's seats that can rotate 180 degrees. This facilitates easy access to the rear of the vehicle and allows for adjustment of the distance to the table when used as a campervan.
In addition to a fully digital cockpit, it is equipped with a Uconnect interface featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The powertrain consists of a 2.2-liter inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo engine, producing a maximum output of 180 hp (182 ps) and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Despite being a commercial vehicle, it is equipped with safety features such as a collision mitigation brake system with pedestrian detection and cruise control. Furthermore, traditional mirrors have been replaced with a digital rearview mirror that displays processed rear-view images.
Six body colors are available, including two custom solid colors. The price for an un-converted vehicle starts at 4.69 million yen, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the latter half of 2022.
