The development concept for the bZ4X is "Activity Hub." Based on the e-TNGA philosophy, Toyota co-developed a dedicated BEV platform with Subaru, aiming for a car that sparks excitement and allows all occupants to share enjoyable moments and spaces. It's a model that challenges innovation in every area, including the interior, styling, driving feel, and performance.
It achieves high energy efficiency (128Wh/km) and a practically sufficient cruising range (559km), with development targeting a world-class battery capacity retention rate (90% after 10 years). In addition to pursuing advanced safety of the battery itself, it incorporates the latest "Toyota Safety Sense" preventive safety package, a body structure that supports all-around collision safety, and a battery pack that contributes to protection during collisions, all to pursue a BEV that can be used safely for a long time.
Toyota, which is working towards carbon neutrality (CN) by 2050, is promoting a full lineup of electrified vehicles, including HEVs, PHEVs, BEVs, and FCEVs. The company aims to provide diverse options that users want to drive and choose, and to contribute to CO2 emission reductions by considering the spread of renewable energy and policies in each region.
Regarding the bZ4X, as Toyota's first full-scale BEV, it is scheduled to be released sequentially as one of the options for achieving CN, taking into account the situations in global markets including North America, Europe, and China.
In Japan, to alleviate user concerns about BEVs and contribute to CN through comprehensive battery management and 3R promotion, it will be sold exclusively through leases. For individual users, it will be offered via the "KINTO" subscription service to ensure they can drive with peace of mind for a long time and receive services throughout their usage period. For corporate users, leases will be available through Toyota Rent a Car and Toyota Mobility Service (Tokyo area) nationwide.
Applications for the first phase of 3,000 units will open on May 12. The second phase will open in early autumn, with subsequent applications accepted sequentially. Production and sales are planned for 5,000 units in the first year.
In conjunction with this, Toyota is also working to expand charging infrastructure, with plans to install rapid chargers at all Toyota dealerships nationwide by 2025. This year, installations will proceed sequentially, focusing on regions with high BEV demand.
