On March 13, Toyota Motor Corporation unveiled the new "Crown Estate" at the Azabudai Hills Arena. With the arrival of the "Crown Estate," all four Crown models, each with a distinct personality, are now available.
An "Active Cabin for Adults" with a 2-meter full-flat floor
The Crown was born in 1955 and celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Previously sold only in Japan, the 16th generation model marks a new chapter as a global model, now available overseas.
The new Crown lineup already includes the "Crossover," "Sport," and "Sedan" models. With the addition of the station wagon-type "Estate," the collection of Crowns, each with its own unique character, is now complete.
The "Crown Estate" was announced alongside the opening of "Life with CROWNs.," an exhibition held at Azabudai Hills Arena until March 16.
This model pursues utility for active lifestyles, with the concept of an "Active Cabin for Adults."
The exterior features a hammerhead face with horizontal daytime running lights and a one-piece rear combination lamp on the back door, emphasizing width and a futuristic feel.
Seamless design elements include a sleek shoulder line that runs the length of the vehicle and a long, flowing cabin, complemented by 21-inch wide, large-diameter tires.
The interior adopts the "Island Architecture" common to the Crown series. The meter display is arranged horizontally, minimizing eye movement to create a driver's space that makes even long journeys comfortable.
The luggage room offers a capacity of 570 liters in its standard configuration and 1,470 liters with the rear seats folded. A notable feature is the "Luggage Room Expansion Board," a Toyota first, which creates a completely flat space of 2 meters.
Furthermore, items such as pull-out deck chairs and tables, accented with the Crown emblem, enhance the experience of spending time in the full-flat space. These can be neatly stored inside the vehicle when not in use, promising greater comfort for overnight stays or outdoor excursions.
The powertrain options include hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, both with a 2.5-liter engine and all-wheel drive.
Additionally, the output of the front motor has been increased by approximately 50% compared to the units in the Crossover and Sport models. The total system output is 179 kW (243 ps) for the HEV and 225 kW (306 ps) for the PHEV. This enhancement ensures stress-free acceleration even when carrying a significant amount of cargo.
The PHEV model also offers an EV driving range of 89 km (WLTC mode) thanks to its lithium-ion battery.
To complement the "Active Cabin for Adults," the suspension has been finely tuned. Drivers can select from three modes: "Normal," "Sport," and "Rear Comfort," which minimizes vibrations for rear passengers, allowing for an enjoyable driving experience tailored to any situation.
The vehicle is available in five monotone and five two-tone color options. The PHEV model also offers exclusive two-tone colors: "Precious Metal" and "Massive Gray."
Pricing starts at 6.35 million yen for the HEV model and 8.10 million yen for the PHEV model.
