The Flying Spur Welcomes an S Model, Set for Debut at Goodwood
Bentley is adding a sportier "S" model to its flagship four-door sedan, the Flying Spur. It will have its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which opens on Thursday, June 23, 2022, UK time.
Hybrid Option Introduced for the First Time in an S Model
The Flying Spur joins Bentley's storied "S" model lineup. This "Flying Spur S" will be the final model to conclude the current S series.
The "Flying Spur S" will be available with two powertrains. The 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine model produces a maximum output of 550 ps and a peak torque of 770 Nm. It achieves 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 198 mph (approximately 320 km/h).
Supporting its sporty yet luxurious ride is the standard "Bentley Dynamic Ride" system. During hard braking, it generates up to 1300 Nm of anti-roll torque within 0.3 seconds, maintaining a level and stable body. At cruising speeds, it decouples the left and right wheels for a smooth and supple ride.
Additionally, the standard "Electronic All-Wheel Steering" system enhances stability during lane changes and overtaking by steering the rear wheels up to 4.2 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels at low speeds.
Meanwhile, a hybrid model, the first for an "S" variant, also debuts. Combining a 2.9-liter V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor, it delivers a system output of 544 ps and 750 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is 4.1 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than the V8 model. It offers an electric-only range of 41 km.
Like other S models, the exterior features black brightware for a lower, wider appearance. It rides on completely new 22-inch wheels, with 21-inch S model-specific wheels also available.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, running until Sunday, June 26, Bentley will not only unveil the new "Flying Spur S" but also showcase the recently announced "Continental GT S" and its convertible counterpart, the "Continental GTC S." Additionally, a display of new and classic Bentleys will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the marque's turbocharged models.
