Top-Model "AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+" Added to CLA Lineup
Mercedes-Benz Japan has added the "AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+" and "AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ Shooting Brake" as the top-grade models to the compact coupe "CLA," and has begun accepting orders.
Equipped with a 2.0-Liter Direct-Injection Turbo Producing 421 hp
The CLA now welcomes its top-grade model, featuring the most powerful engine. It adopts the "M139" 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, which Mercedes-Benz touts as the "world's most powerful" in its class. This is the same engine found in the A 45 S 4MATIC, delivering the world's highest output of 421 hp and 500 Nm of torque for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
Unlike its predecessor, this engine places the turbocharger and exhaust manifold behind the engine, with the intake system, including the intake manifold, positioned in front. This allows for a lower engine mounting position, not only contributing to handling performance but also offering aerodynamic advantages.
The turbocharger's compressor and turbine shafts utilize roller bearings, as seen in the AMG GT 4-door coupe "63 S." This reduces mechanical friction within the turbocharger, enhancing its responsiveness and enabling it to reach maximum RPMs more quickly. This is combined with the torque-variable all-wheel-drive AMG 4MATIC+.
Furthermore, an aluminum plate has been installed beneath the engine compartment to enhance the torsional rigidity of the front section, with additional reinforcement provided by strut tower braces. Diagonal struts have been added to the front and rear of the underbody to increase rigidity.
These enhancements ensure more precise response from the entire suspension system and reduce body flex during cornering, braking, and load changes.
The exterior features AMG-specific radiator grille, wider at the bottom with vertical louvers, and a jet-wing design on the front apron. The front fenders are extended by 12mm compared to the standard CLA.
The "CLA 45 S 4MATIC+" is also equipped with AMG Track Pace, capable of continuously recording over 80 types of vehicle data, such as speed and acceleration, during circuit driving. It also features functions to display lap times, sector times, and the difference from reference times.
Safety features include "Intelligent Drive," which incorporates functions like Active Steering Assist and Emergency Braking in traffic jams.
Pricing starts at 8.56 million yen for the coupe and 8.66 million yen for the Shooting Brake. Deliveries are scheduled to begin after December 2019.
