Alphard and Vellfire Evolve to Offer the "Happiness of Comfortable Mobility"
Toyota has fully redesigned the "Alphard" and "Vellfire" for the first time in eight years, releasing the new models.
Vellfire Features Dedicated Tuning to Clearly Differentiate from Alphard
Toyota's flagship luxury minivans, the Alphard and Vellfire, have evolved into their fourth generation.
The new models were developed with the theme of "elevating performance to a global standard" to pursue "the happiness of comfortable mobility," aiming to create a space where people can appreciate and be grateful to each other, including the driver and passengers.
To evolve the minivans into "large-space luxury sedans," the development began with a complete overhaul to the TNGA platform, followed by thorough reduction of vibrations and noise that people find uncomfortable, and further improvements to fundamental performance such as fuel efficiency and driving dynamics, along with various other refinements.
Furthermore, this full model change further clarifies the individual characteristics of the Alphard and Vellfire. A new dedicated grade, "Z Premier," has been introduced for the Vellfire to enhance the "joy of driving."
The "Z Premier" features a black-based metallic trim that adds a touch of sophistication to its aggressive styling. It also boasts dedicated suspension tuning and body reinforcement to enhance the "joy of driving," along with a dedicated powertrain unit featuring a 2.4-liter turbo engine.
The body size for both the Alphard and Vellfire has been maintained within the typical restrictions for mechanical parking garages: a maximum length of 5,000 mm and a maximum width of 1,850 mm.
In terms of design, the keyword is "Forceful × IMPACT LUXURY," with a motif inspired by the dynamic movement of a charging bull.
At the front, the emblem area features an inverted slope design, with the emblem positioned at the forefront, to create a sense of forceful momentum. From the front to the rear along the sides, contours are designed to convey a powerful push-off from the ground.
Inside, the equipment was developed and adopted with the theme of "hospitality." Notably, the "Super Long Overhead Console" consolidates lighting, various switches, and air conditioning vents, which were previously scattered across the ceiling, into the center. This allows for easy operation from any rear seat, including opening and closing windows and adjusting lighting.
Furthermore, to ensure comfortable entry and exit for small children and the elderly, a universal step has been adopted for the right-side sliding door. When the sliding door opens, a step appears at a height of 220 mm from the ground. Simultaneously, long assist grips are installed on the center pillar and the left and right ceilings, facilitating comfortable boarding and alighting.
In terms of safety equipment, in addition to "Toyota Safety Sense," the "Toyota Teammate" advanced driving support system is also installed. Features such as "Advanced Park," which allows remote parking and unparking using a smartphone app, and "Advanced Drive" for traffic jam support are also available.
In addition, to support comfortable travel, the front suspension has been revamped to a MacPherson strut type for TNGA, and the shapes of the engine hood edges and door mirrors have been optimized to reduce road noise and wind noise.
The powertrain options include a "series-parallel hybrid" combining a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with a motor, producing a system maximum output of 184 kW (250 ps), and a gasoline engine.
For the gasoline engines, the Alphard uses a 2.5-liter engine, while the Vellfire features a 2.4-liter turbo engine, creating a distinction between the two.
Furthermore, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models are planned for introduction for both models in the future.
Prices range from 5.4 million to 8.72 million yen for the Alphard, and 6.55 million to 8.92 million yen for the Vellfire.
