Ferrari Unveils the "SF90 Spider," Its Most Powerful Production Model Ever with a Retractable Hardtop

On April 2nd, Ferrari Japan unveiled the "SF90 Spider" in Tokyo, a model that had its global online premiere in Maranello, Italy, in November 2020, as the spider version of the "SF90 Stradale," Ferrari's highest-performance production supercar series.

Equipped with a Plug-in Hybrid System Delivering a Total Maximum Output of 1,000 cv

The SF90 Spider, a spider variant of the SF90 Stradale, measures 4,704mm in length, 1,973mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,649mm, weighing 1,670kg. Its plug-in hybrid system combines a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine producing a maximum output of 780 cv with three electric motors—one at the rear and two at the front—for a combined maximum output of 1,000 cv.
The new e-Manettino offers power modes including "eDrive," "Hybrid," "Performance," and "Qualify." Combined with the 8-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission and AWD system, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds, and a top speed of 340 km/h, delivering overwhelming performance comparable to the "LaFerrari," a special limited model introduced in 2016 as the successor to the "Enzo Ferrari." For owners desiring a track-focused vehicle, an "Assetto Fiorano" package is available, featuring dedicated upgrades that significantly differ from the standard specification.
The aluminum retractable hardtop was developed to maintain performance levels even when the roof is deployed, minimize aerodynamic turbulence and noise when retracted, and optimize airflow to the engine bay. It is 40kg lighter than conventional hardtops and uniquely requires only 100 liters of storage space, compared to the 150-200 liters typically needed. The roof can be opened or closed in just 14 seconds while driving, and it is claimed to provide a comfortable cabin experience by blocking noise and remaining stable even at high speeds.
Federico Pastorelli, President of Ferrari Japan, commented, "The SF90 Spider fundamentally redefines the concept of a supercar. It is the ideal model for owners who seek the ultimate performance born from Ferrari's pinnacle of technology while also desiring the joy of driving with the roof down."
