New Mid-Engine Corvette Reservations Now Open

General Motors Japan announced on Friday, January 10th, that the new "Chevrolet Corvette" will make its Japan debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2020, alongside the opening of reservations. To commemorate its introduction to Japan, a pre-order campaign will be held until Tuesday, March 31st, allowing customers to select their preferred body color.

The First Mid-Engine and Right-Hand Drive Corvette in History

The Chevrolet Corvette debuted in 1953. The eighth generation, unveiled last year, marks a significant shift from the traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout to a mid-engine configuration for the first time, and will also be available in right-hand drive for the Japanese market.

The Japanese specification Chevrolet Corvette will be offered in two grades: "2LT" and "3LT." Both feature a 6.2-liter V8 OHV engine producing a maximum output of 369kW (502ps) and 637Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters.

Additionally, the "Z51 Performance Package," designed for high performance, comes as standard equipment. Driver assistance features are also enhanced, including a front curve view parking camera, HD rearview camera, and rear park assist.

The "2LT" is equipped with GT2 bucket seats. The "3LT" standard equipment includes carbon fiber parts for both the interior and exterior, and features competition sport bucket seats designed for enhanced hold.

To celebrate its introduction to the Japanese market, a pre-order campaign is also being held until Tuesday, March 31st, allowing customers to choose their preferred body color from six available options.
