At the Shanghai Motor Show, which opened today, Toyota Motor Corporation world-premiered the new ES for Lexus and the "bZ7," its flagship BEV model for China. The company also announced plans to expand its BEV lineup in China.
The ES, an electrified model, is slated for release in Japan around Spring 2026.
Toyota is committed to carbon neutrality, advocating a "multi-pathway" approach to offer a diverse range of electrified vehicles to meet the needs of customers in every country and region.
Recognizing China as a leading, cutting-edge market for electrification with a high BEV penetration rate in new car sales, Toyota unveiled the new "bZ7" as its latest BEV following the "bZ4X," "bZ3," "bZ3X," and "bZ5" under the Toyota brand. For the Lexus brand, the new ES was announced as a BEV successor to the "UX" and "RZ."
The "bZ7" is a locally developed model, a collaborative effort between Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC), GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC), and IEM by TOYOTA (Toyota Intelligent Electric Vehicle Research and Development Center (China) Co., Ltd.).
This sedan-type BEV, exceeding five meters in length, is slated to incorporate the latest intelligent technologies befitting a flagship Chinese BEV model. Its launch is expected within the year.
The eighth-generation Lexus "ES" will be offered in both BEV and hybrid variants. Inspired by the next-generation BEV concept "LF-ZC," it features Lexus's new design language, characterized by deepened elegance and clean proportions.
The interior integrates "Responsive Hidden Switches," which blend physical controls seamlessly into the cabin, and a "Sensory Concierge" for a personalized experience. These features, along with a spacious rear cabin and other advanced technologies, create a refined package.
The dedicated platform contributes to a refined ride quality. The powertrain lineup has also been revamped, featuring hybrid models with either a 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter engine, alongside BEV models. Lexus promises a new driving experience through electrification.
The new "ES" is scheduled to go on sale in Japan around Spring 2026.
