GM Unveils the New Cadillac Escalade

On November 12, General Motors Japan announced that the new model of the "Cadillac Escalade," a full-size luxury SUV that has evolved over more than 20 years since the debut of its first model and continues to attract many celebrities, will go on sale starting November 13.

Two Grades Available: "Platinum" and "Sport"

The new Escalade's body measures a full-size 5,382mm in length, 2,060mm in width, and 1,948mm in height. The exterior differentiates itself from the previous generation with slim, smart new horizontal headlights, while the dramatic taillights emphasizing verticality carry on Cadillac's traditional appearance. Advanced lighting technology creates a bold presence.
There are the luxury-grade "Platinum," characterized by a Galvano grille with horizontal bars, and the "Sport," distinguished by a more aggressive front fascia with a black mesh grille and black trim.
Inside, the "curved OLED display," a first for the Escalade in the automotive industry, is a standout feature. It boasts a large display area exceeding 38 inches diagonally, offering the widest color gamut (twice the pixel density of 4K) of any automotive display currently in production. OLED's vibrant colors and image quality eliminate the need for a hood over the display, creating a brighter, glare-free environment, while the curved shape enhances visibility.
Furthermore, in terms of audio, the integration of AKG's audio technology, renowned globally for microphones and headphones used by famous musicians in recording studios and live venues, into an automotive audio system for the first time is also a notable topic.
The interior space has been expanded, with a lower cabin floor due to the new vehicle structure—enabled by a longer wheelbase (+121mm) and overall length (+187mm)—and a new independent rear suspension. This has increased both cabin and luggage space. Compared to the previous generation, legroom in the third row is about 40% larger. Not only is the living space more generous, but access to the second and third-row seats has also been improved, allowing for a more comfortable seating position for third-row occupants.
The powertrain consists of a 6.2-liter V8 OHV engine producing 313kW (426ps) at 5,600rpm and 623Nm of torque at 4,100rpm, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The drive system is a selectable 4WD.
The newly developed independent rear suspension allows each wheel to respond individually to road conditions, dramatically improving ride comfort, steering response, and driver control. Furthermore, the "Magnetic Ride Control," the world's fastest-reacting suspension technology, features an improved, latest-generation system. Combined with the "Adaptive Air Ride Suspension" for fine-tuned ride height adjustments and the "electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD)" that supplies maximum torque to the wheels under all conditions to enhance traction, it achieves exceptional body control and outstanding agility.
Standard equipment includes "Surround Vision," which displays a bird's-eye view of the vehicle's surroundings captured by four external cameras in a 2-million-pixel resolution, and the "Cloud Streaming Navigation," a fully connected in-car navigation system jointly developed by GM Japan and Zenrin DataCom Co., Ltd. The class-first 12.6-inch independent touch-screen HD displays are mounted on the back of each front seat, featuring streaming capabilities for games, music, and video via HDMI and USB inputs, as well as smartphone mirroring. Additionally, various charging and input ports are provided throughout the cabin, and the refrigerator in the floor console now includes a freezer function.
The price for the "Cadillac Escalade Platinum" is ¥14.9 million, and the "Cadillac Escalade Sport" is ¥15.2 million. To commemorate the launch, a "Pre-Order Campaign" allowing customers to choose their preferred exterior and interior colors is being held for a limited time from the launch date until January 17, 2021 (Sunday).
Deliveries are scheduled to begin around summer 2021. GM Japan plans to publicly unveil the new "Cadillac Escalade" in Japan at the "Tokyo Auto Salon 2021," scheduled to be held at Makuhari Messe from January 15 (Friday) to January 17 (Sunday), 2021.
