Production of Face Shields Begins in Japan
Honda has already provided 21 municipalities with a total of 83 transport vehicles for coronavirus patients in Japan. The company has now delivered 10 vehicles to the city of Detroit in the U.S.
The vehicles are North American specification 'Odyssey' models. They feature a custom interior that utilizes air pressure differences to reduce the risk of transmission from patients in the rear seats to the driver. In addition to Detroit, Honda is considering lending these vehicles to other municipalities with high demand.
Furthermore, Honda has begun supporting the production of medical compressors, a key component of ventilators, leveraging its mass-production expertise. The company aims to produce 10,000 units per month.
In Japan, Honda has completed the delivery of 83 transport vehicles for coronavirus patients to 21 municipalities, including Tokyo, Saitama, Mie, and Tochigi prefectures. Additionally, production of face shields commenced at the Tochigi Monozukuri Center on May 11th, and they will be sequentially delivered to medical facilities through local governments.
