Toyota Unveils the All-New Yaris Cross SUV Globally
On April 23, Toyota globally unveiled the Yaris Cross, a new compact SUV.
Scheduled for Release: Autumn 2020 in Japan, Mid-2021 in Europe
The Yaris Cross was slated to debut at the 90th Geneva International Motor Show, which was ultimately canceled. It has been developed to redefine the urban compact SUV, inheriting the Yaris brand's commitment to driving pleasure and its superior quality that transcends its class.
It shares the same compact car TNGA platform (GA-B) as the Yaris, with dimensions of 4,180mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,560mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,560mm.
Two powertrain options are available: a THS II hybrid system with a reduction gear (FF/E-Four) using a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder engine, and a 1.5-liter Dynamic Force engine with a Direct Shift-CVT (FF/4WD).
The vehicle achieves a high level of fundamental performance and environmental efficiency, while balancing maneuverable body size with SUV-like utility, including spaciousness and cargo capacity.
The exterior expresses a simple yet robust SUV character, while the interior is designed to offer a premium feel and a comfortable atmosphere.
Production for the Japanese market will be handled by Toyota Motor East Japan, Inc., and for the European market, by a plant in France. Sales are scheduled to begin in Autumn 2020 in Japan and mid-2021 in Europe.
