The Most Powerful AMG S63 in History, Featuring F1-Derived Technology
Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced the "Mercedes AMG S63 E Performance Edition1," the top performance model of its flagship "S-Class." It will be sold in a limited edition of 30 units.
Total Maximum Output of 590kW, Maximum Torque of 1,430Nm
The drivetrain combines a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with an AC synchronous motor, an AMG-developed battery (13.1kWh), and AMG's performance-oriented "4MATIC+" all-wheel-drive system with continuously variable torque distribution.
The combined system, powered by the engine and motor, produces a maximum output of 590kW (802ps) and a maximum torque of over 1,430Nm. It achieves 0-100km/h acceleration in just 3.3 seconds.
The AMG High Performance Battery (HPB) equipped in this vehicle was developed based on technology used in the F1 hybrid racing cars of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. Its ability to repeatedly generate high output, strong regenerative braking from braking and downhill driving, and a lightweight structure all contribute to the car's overall performance enhancement.
The "AMG Dynamic Select" allows for the selection of seven driving modes, including the electric-only "Electric," "Sport," and the most dynamic "Sport+." In "Electric" mode, the vehicle can travel 37km on battery power alone in WLTC mode, with a continuous output of 80kW and a peak output of 140kW (for 10 seconds).
The transmission is an AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed. Additionally, it features AMG Dynamic Engine Mounts for the first time in an S-Class. This allows for infinitely adjustable stiffness according to driving conditions, contributing to optimal driving dynamics.
The exterior also exudes a presence befitting a top-tier model, with the body finished in "MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey (Solid)" and accented with black details throughout.
It features an AMG-specific front grille with vertical louvers and a central star grille, a first for the S-Class, along with a front apron in a jet-wing design with large side air inlets.
The rear expresses the sporty character unique to AMG models with quad square exhaust tips and a wide diffuser incorporating vertical fins and a diffuser board. The 21-inch AMG wheels and red-painted brake calipers add to its powerful stance.
The interior retains the high quality expected of the S-Class while incorporating AMG-specific features such as AMG Performance Steering Wheel and AMG Sport Pedals. The MBUX infotainment system includes display options and functions unique to AMG and hybrid models. The steering wheel is only available on the left side.
The "Mercedes AMG S63 E Performance Edition1" is limited to 30 units, with applications accepted until Tuesday, October 17th. If more than 30 applications are received, a lottery will be held. The price is 40.4 million yen.
