Stellantis Japan has launched the Peugeot 3008, a C-segment SUV from Peugeot, which has undergone a full model change for the first time in eight years. Initially, only a hybrid model will be available, with an electric vehicle (BEV) model to be released by the end of the year.
First Adoption of Newly Developed "Stellantis Medium" Platform
The Peugeot 3008 has undergone a full model change for the first time in eight years. This model marks the first adoption of Stellantis' newly developed "Stellantis Medium" platform.
This platform is designed for C-segment and D-segment electric vehicles and is characterized by its ability to accommodate diverse configurations, including wheelbase, overall length, and ride height, as well as suspension types.
While optimized for BEV design, it also supports multiple energy sources, including hybrid and future developments, maximizing design flexibility. This platform is a testament to the capabilities of the Stellantis Group, with its wide array of brands.
The hybrid model being launched features a 48V mild-hybrid system, combining a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder gasoline turbo engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission incorporating an electric motor.
The motor's assistance provides smoother starts and acceleration. In urban driving, the engine can be stopped up to 50% of the time, allowing for electric-only driving at speeds up to approximately 30 km/h. The system's maximum output is 145 ps, with a maximum torque of 230 Nm from the engine and 51 Nm from the motor.
The design of the 3008, which Peugeot touts as its next-generation flagship model, adopts a fastback style. It features Peugeot's first-ever design with flush side window trim, creating a seamless side line that flows from front to rear.
The front features a large, frameless grille with the emblem at its center, and a body-colored grid design that exudes presence. Additionally, LED daytime running lights, inspired by lion's claw marks, reinforce Peugeot's identity.
The 19-inch wheels fitted to the hybrid model are named "YARI." Named after Mt. Yari in the Northern Japan Alps, Nagano Prefecture, the design reinterprets the sharp summit of the spear-like peak with a modern aesthetic, while also considering aerodynamics.
The interior features a horizontal design that visually widens the entire cabin. A bold, diagonal line cutting from the dashboard to the center console creates a modern space while maintaining storage capacity and functionality.
It also incorporates the newly developed "Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit," which consolidates essential information while enhancing visibility and operability.
The body colors include the new "Ingaro Blue," along with "Obsession Blue" and "Okenite White," for a total of three options.
The grades and prices are: "Allure Hybrid" at 4.89 million yen, "GT Hybrid" at 5.40 million yen, and "GT Alcantara Package Hybrid" at 5.58 million yen. Additionally, the BEV model, "E-3008," is scheduled for release within the year.
