The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Undergoes a Full Model Change
On June 14, BMW announced that the new "BMW 2 Series Active Tourer," a compact SAT (Sports Activity Tourer) type that blends dynamic styling and driving performance with a spacious interior and high functionality and comfort, would go on sale that same day. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in June.
Powertrain Options: Gasoline and Diesel
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been a highly popular model since its debut in 2014. The second-generation model measures 4,385mm in length, 1,825mm in width, and 1,580mm in height, making it slightly larger than its predecessor. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,670mm.
The exterior features a modern, enlarged kidney grille with an octagonal motif, complemented by adaptive LED headlights that flow towards the sides, creating a sporty impression. The side profile adopts flush door handles integrated into the panel. At the rear, the exhaust outlets are concealed beneath the vehicle, contributing to a modern and stylish appearance.
The interior introduces the BMW Curved Display for the first time in a BMW compact class. This integrated, enlarged display combines the instrument cluster and control display, angled towards the driver for enhanced visibility and touch operation. The shift lever has been eliminated, with all controls consolidated in the center armrest.
Even with three passengers, the rear seats can be moved forward by up to 130mm to expand luggage space. Furthermore, without moving the seats forward, the backrests can be set to a vertical position, increasing luggage capacity by 90 liters.
There are two powertrain options: gasoline and diesel. The 1.5-liter inline 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine in the 218i produces a maximum output of 156 ps (115 kW) at 5,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,500-4,600 rpm. The 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine in the 218d generates a maximum output of 150 ps (110 kW) at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 360 Nm at 1,500-2,500 rpm. Both models are paired with a 7-speed double-clutch transmission.
In terms of driver assistance, the standard Driving Assistant package features advanced safety functions with improved accuracy and precision, thanks to the high analytical capabilities of its high-performance camera and radar, along with a powerful processor. Additionally, the standard Parking Assistant includes a Reversing Assistant function that can recall the route the vehicle traveled backward for up to 50 meters at speeds below 35 km/h, and accurately retrace that same route in reverse. In terms of connectivity, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is equipped, utilizing AI technology for natural conversations and allowing the driver to freely assign a name to the system.
Prices range from 4.18 million to 4.47 million yen for the BMW 218i Active Tourer, and 4.47 million to 4.76 million yen for the BMW 218d Active Tourer.
