Aston Martin x Brough Superior Superbike Begins Test Runs
Aston Martin and British motorcycle brand Brough Superior have announced the start of track testing for the AMB001, a limited-edition superbike co-developed by the two companies. The AMB001 is a motorcycle designed and developed exclusively for the track, featuring the traditional Aston Martin camouflage livery. The first deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2020.
Limited to 100 units, with an expected retail price of €108,000
The crucial track testing phase for the prototype involved the development team verifying the chassis geometry, ergonomics, and riding characteristics. Just as Aston Martin's vehicle dynamics engineers 'read' the vehicle's characteristics, Brough Superior's test riders are providing feedback on all aspects of performance, including the motorcycle's overall behavior, cornering capabilities, braking, and acceleration.
Concurrently, engine bench tests were conducted to check the unique 997cc V-twin engine with a turbocharger, which produces 180hp (134kW) – a remarkable output for a production motorcycle. The exterior design, with its large intake manifold for the radiator, also gives the impression of a supercar engine.
Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin, commented: "Despite the challenging circumstances we currently face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made significant progress thanks to the outstanding work of everyone involved in the development of the AMB001. We are eagerly anticipating the moment when production of this exceptionally appealing machine begins, following further refinement through testing both on and off the track."
Thierry Henriette, CEO of Brough Superior, added: "A distinctive design feature of the AMB001 is the aluminum fin that runs the full length of the carbon fiber tank, extending rearward beneath the saddle. The bodywork supporting the fins and saddle utilizes the expertise of Mecano ID, a French engineering firm involved in this project. They have applied advanced carbon fiber technology, typically used in the aerospace industry, to the AMB001."
Production of the limited 100 units of the AMB001 will commence this autumn at Brough Superior's factory in Toulouse, France. The expected retail price is €108,000 (including 20% VAT).
