A High-Performance Plug-in Hybrid Minivan

The "Concept V-ision e" unveiled by Mercedes-Benz at the Geneva Motor Show, while appearing as the new "V-Class" minivan announced last May, is a show car that explores the potential of the minivan by incorporating various innovations in its interior, exterior, and powertrain.

The powertrain uses the same system as the plug-in hybrid model "C 350 e" added to the new C-Class. A 155kW (210ps) / 350Nm inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine is combined with an electric motor producing 90kW / 340Nm, for a total system output of 245kW (333ps) and 600Nm.

As a result, it achieves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 206 km/h, while also delivering fuel efficiency of 3.0 L/100km (approximately 33.3 km/L) and low CO2 emissions of 71g/km.

The electric motor is powered by a 13.5kWh lithium-ion battery. Mercedes explains that with a full charge, it can travel up to 50km as an electric vehicle, covering most daily needs like commuting and shopping.

While the computer normally selects the optimal combination of motor and engine, the driver can also manually select "Hybrid," "E-Mode" (electric only), "E-Save" (to conserve battery for later EV use), or "E-Charge" (to prioritize charging).

Executive Seats Inherited from the S-Class

The Concept V-ision e, finished in a special "Titanium Alubeam" color from the Designo program, features sporty side skirts, bumpers, and a rear spoiler. The aggressive exterior is complemented by 20-inch high-sheen polished multi-spoke wheels.

The interior, designed to evoke a loft-like atmosphere filled with natural light, features a massive 1.92 x 1.12-meter panoramic sliding sunroof instead of a traditional skylight. This expansive glass, split into two sections front and rear, is equipped with Magic Sky Control, also found in the "SL Class" and "S Class," which allows the transparency to be adjusted electronically, enabling it to be shaded with the touch of a button.

To enhance the loft aesthetic, the floor is finished in dark English walnut, creating a calm contrast with the beige seats upholstered in Nappa leather and Dinamica microfiber.

The rear seating area, with the third row removed, features exclusive seats inherited from the S-Class. These seats can recline up to 49 degrees and offer calf support, a separate footrest, an additional headrest, three-stage seat heating, ventilation, and an optional massage function, creating the ultimate comfort space by leveraging the minivan's generous interior.

In addition to relaxation, it also proposes a comfortable mobile office. The back of the front seats is equipped with a spacious 35x35cm folding desk finished in Nappa leather, and an iPad holder with a 90-degree rotating USB charging cable is also integrated.

The center console between the driver and front passenger seats includes a cup holder with heating and cooling functions on the top, and a storage box with a USB port and SD card slot. A 5-liter cooler box and 220V and 12V power outlets are also provided.

Through the Concept V-ision e, Mercedes-Benz aims to show customers the infinite possibilities that arise from customization, moving beyond the V-Class's role as merely a people mover evolved from a commercial van. The plug-in hybrid system balancing performance and low environmental impact, the sporty exterior, and the luxurious interior inherited from the "S-Class" are presented as just one example of these possibilities.
