The Civic Type R Evolves Circuit Performance with Minor Model Update
Honda has announced a minor model update for the Civic Type R and commenced sales. Simultaneously, a "Limited Edition" model, restricted to 200 units domestically, was also unveiled. It will be released on Monday, November 30, 2020.
Improved Engine Cooling and Enhanced Downforce Levels
The Civic Type R undergoes its first minor update in three years. This iteration features sportier designs for the front and rear bumpers, along with improved engine cooling, all aimed at enhancing circuit driving performance.
Cooling performance is boosted by increasing the opening area of the front grille compared to the previous model. Changes to the front bumper air spoiler's shape have also achieved downforce levels exceeding those of the previous model.
Furthermore, the adoption of peace floating disc brakes improves brake feel during circuit driving. This not only ensures stable braking but also contributes to reducing unsprung weight.
Directness has also been enhanced. Updates to the Adaptive Damper System control, suspension bushes, and ball joints have been implemented. This leads to improved handling performance throughout corner approaches and exits, better grip on rough surfaces, and enhanced damping, resulting in a more direct driving feel.
Inside, the steering wheel rim is now covered in Alcantara, enhancing both texture and grip, allowing the driver to feel the car's behavior more directly. The shift knob has also been redesigned into a teardrop shape, improving visibility and operational precision.
Additionally, the "Honda SENSING" advanced safety and driver-assist system is equipped.
The "Limited Edition," restricted to 200 units, features thorough weight reduction and dedicated systems such as exclusive 20-inch wheels and the Adaptive Damper System to enhance sports performance. It is also available in a special color, Sunlight Yellow II, reminiscent of the first-generation Civic Type R.
The standard body colors are available in five options. Pricing is ¥4,752,000 for the Type R, and ¥5,500,000 for the "Limited Edition," which is restricted to 200 units.
