130km Range, 135km/h Top Speed
Expected to launch in 2013, the "E-UP!" measures 3190mm long, 1640mm wide, and 1470mm high, with a wheelbase of 2190mm. It offers space for three adults and one child, and is a fully electric vehicle that produces zero tailpipe emissions while driving.
It uses lithium-ion batteries, achieving a range of 130km and a top speed of 135km/h. A full charge can be achieved in five hours using a standard 230V home outlet. With a rapid charger, it can reach approximately 80% charge in one hour.
The motor delivers a maximum output of 60kW and peak torque of 21.4kgm, providing ample power for city driving.
Scheduled for Release Around 2013
"Electric vehicles must be affordable and practical for the average user," stated Volkswagen AG Chairman Martin Winterkorn. "While medium to long-distance travel will continue to rely on existing TDI (diesel) and TSI (gasoline) technologies for some time, electric vehicles also represent a viable option for short-distance journeys."
Indeed, the "E-UP!" is a concept car born as a city commuter. Alongside its unveiling, Volkswagen also introduced the "Kick-Step," a micro-mobility device designed for urban use that can be stored in the "E-UP!"'s trunk. Many will undoubtedly recall the relationship between the classic Honda City and its Motocompo scooter.
The launch is anticipated around 2013.
