The Production Version of the Prologue Concept
This model can be considered the production version of the "Prologue" concept car, which was announced at the Paris Motor Show last September. Just recently, on April 30th, PSA (Peugeot Citroën) announced that they would add diesel-hybrid variants to the Peugeot "3008" and Citroën "DS5" (not yet revealed) and begin production in 2011. This unveiling makes that announcement a reality.
While the concept car was equipped with a highly efficient diesel hybrid, the two models revealed this time are also fitted with a system called "Hybrid4".
Scheduled for Production in Early 2011
This system combines a 2.0-liter direct-injection, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, the "HDi FAP" (163ps, 30.6kgm), with an electric motor (37ps, 20.4kgm). The total output from the engine and motor is announced as 200ps. A key feature of this "Hybrid4" system is its impressive environmental performance, achieving CO2 emissions of 95-99g/km while delivering this high power output.
Furthermore, these models employ a four-wheel-drive system where the engine powers the front wheels and the electric motor drives the rear wheels.
The transmission is a 6-speed, 2-pedal manual. It incorporates an idling stop mechanism to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
These two "Hybrid4" models are scheduled for their official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. While the release date for the RCZ Hybrid4 is yet to be determined, the 3008 Hybrid4 is slated for production in early 2011.
