Mazda Unveils the New Crossover SUV, the MX-30
On October 8, Mazda announced the mild-hybrid model of its new compact SUV, the "Mazda MX-30," the third model in its new generation lineup, and began sales the same day.
A Completely New Model for Users Who Want to Use Their Cars with Greater Freedom
The MX-30 is positioned as a compact SUV that proposes creative time and space, aiming to allow users to spend their own time naturally with their car, under the concept of "Living My Way." It features a design that evokes approachability and warmth, pillarless, center-opening freestyle doors that stimulate creativity, and a comfortable interior space.
The body dimensions are 4,395mm in length, 1,795mm in width, and 1,550mm in height. The powertrain is the "e-SKYACTIV G," which combines the direct-injection gasoline engine "SKYACTIV-G 2.0" with Mazda's unique mild-hybrid system "M Hybrid," based on the long-term technology development vision "Sustainable 'Zoom-Zoom' Declaration 2030." This system is said to achieve quiet and smooth acceleration, a refined driving feel, and excellent fuel efficiency through motor-assisted engine operation.
The exterior emphasizes the beauty of a bold, monolithic form through a simple, three-dimensional structure. The cabin design expresses a sense of lightness with its freestyle doors and three-tone body colors, known as framed tops. Body colors include three-tone options with framed tops and four monotone options.
The interior achieves an "enveloping sense of openness" through features like a floating console design and unique material choices with a sustainability theme. Two interior coordination options are available as an option: a white-based "Modern Confidence" with a modern theme, and a brown-based "Industrial Classic."
The "Heritage Cork" used in the console tray is a sustainable material with a low environmental impact, harvested from the bark of trees rather than felling them, and is finished to highlight its natural texture and warm appearance. The door trim uses a fabric material made from recycled PET bottles, known as "breathing material," which expresses a sense of spaciousness through its airy texture.
Mazda has adopted a touch panel for the air conditioning controls for the first time in a Mazda vehicle, allowing for intuitive and safe operation. Furthermore, the 7-inch touch panel display features an interaction function, offering an experience that brings users closer to the car.
The audio system includes the "Mazda Harmonic Acoustics" (8 speakers) as standard, designed to deliver only the desired sounds comfortably. A Bose sound system (12 speakers), with enhanced sound dimensionality and clarity, is available as an option.
Mazda President and CEO Akira Marumoto stated, "The 'MX-30' is a model that expands the breadth of the Mazda brand, aimed at customers who wish to use their cars with greater freedom. With the 'MX-30,' we aim to deliver the 'joy of driving' by enabling customers to enjoy various ways of using the car in a comfortable interior space, driven by their own original ideas."
The MX-30 is available in a single grade, "Your Original Choice," allowing users to select options based on their needs and preferences. A range of optional equipment is available to customize the vehicle.
The price is 2,420,000 yen for the FF model and 2,655,000 yen for the 4WD model. The EV model is scheduled for release in the Japanese market in January 2021.
