Lexus World Premieres the All-New NX | LEXUS

Next-Generation Interior/Exterior and Safety Performance

The exterior of the new NX aims to establish Lexus' next-generation design language, pursuing "originality" rooted in proportions that contribute to performance and function, and "simplicity" rooted in technology.
The front view emphasizes a sense of mass by vertically orienting the grille and extending the hood close to the front edge. The upright grille efficiently draws in air, improving radiator cooling performance. Eliminating the chrome grille surround enhances the sense of mass and achieves a simpler, lighter construction. The grille pattern uses three-dimensional, vertically oriented U-shaped blocks with a slit-like opening at the bottom to improve cooling and add a powerful presence befitting an SUV. The headlamps, with their predominantly black theme, highlight the L-shaped daytime running lights.
The side profile expresses a sense of length with the hood extending towards the upright grille, while the short rear overhang adds a feeling of agility. Shortening the straight section of the beltline and emphasizing the upward kick towards the rear creates a sense of cabin compactness. The design fuses sharp character lines with large, contrasting curves, creating a solid texture that makes each element stand out. It aims for a new, compelling design expression for the next generation of Lexus, simple yet visually engaging.
The color palette includes nine options, such as Sonic Chrome, which utilizes Lexus' unique metallic finishing technology, Celestial Blue, a vibrant, straightforward color, and Blazing Carnelian Contrast Layering, which combines depth and vividness.
The interior, on the other hand, is designed based on the "Tazuna Concept," a new cockpit design philosophy that further evolves Lexus' human-centered approach, first presented in the "LF-30 Electrified" concept car at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Inspired by the "reins" used by a rider to control a horse, the steering switches and head-up display are highly integrated, allowing drivers to control navigation, audio, drive mode select, and other functions without shifting their gaze or fumbling with switches, enabling them to concentrate on driving. The display is a large, high-resolution 14-inch wide touchscreen. The windshield panel features an anti-reflective coating and bonding technology, ensuring a low-reflection, clear display.
The interior color scheme aims to create a cockpit optimized for driving concentration based on the Tazuna Concept, offering a diverse lineup including "Black & Rich Cream," which features a contrasting black and rich cream palette accented with high-saturation orange stitching.
In terms of connectivity, a new multimedia system has been developed with an emphasis on intuitive usability. By constantly displaying selection switches for various menus as icons on the driver's side, excellent accessibility is achieved. The overall screen layout is divided into areas based on information granularity, and the operational flow for navigation, audio, and vehicle settings is unified for ease of use.
It also features the latest voice recognition function. In addition to activation via the steering wheel's talk switch, it can be activated by touching the microphone icon on the display or by voice command. By uttering a preset activation phrase (e.g., "Hey Lexus!"), the voice recognition function can be activated without operating switches or interrupting music playback. It also supports natural conversational voice commands.
Furthermore, it adopts Connected Navigation, which utilizes cloud-based map data to obtain real-time traffic and parking availability information. This is a hybrid navigation system that combines traditional onboard navigation with connected navigation.
The new NX is scheduled to go on sale in Japan around the fall of 2021.
