Lamborghini Unveils Most Powerful V12 Circuit-Only Model, the Essenza SCV12
On July 29, Lamborghini unveiled the "Essenza SCV12," a circuit-only hypercar powered by the most powerful V12 engine in Lamborghini's history. This limited edition model, with technical support from Lamborghini Squadra Corse and design by the Lamborghini Centro Stile design department, is also the first GT hypercar developed in compliance with FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) prototype safety rules.
Maximum Output of 830 hp Achieved with a Power-to-Weight Ratio of 1.66 hp/kg
The Essenza SCV12, a spiritual successor to models like the Miura, Iota, and Diablo GTR, is equipped with a V12 engine that produces over 830 hp, the most powerful naturally aspirated engine developed by Lamborghini. The RAM effect during high-speed driving significantly boosts power. The exhaust pipes, designed by Capristo to reduce back pressure, not only enhance performance but also emphasize the unique sound of this engine.
Power is managed by a new Xtrac 6-speed sequential gearbox, integrated into the chassis structure, combined with rear-wheel drive, ensuring compactness, structural continuity, and high torsional rigidity. The adoption of a new-generation carbon fiber monocoque chassis, without a roll cage, results in an unparalleled power-to-weight ratio of 1.66 hp/kg.
Furthermore, to ensure maximum agility and stability on demanding circuits, kinematic solutions inspired by racing prototypes have been employed, including a pushrod rear suspension directly attached to the gearbox. Finally, magnesium rims (19-inch front, 20-inch rear) with Brembo brake discs and calipers are fitted with specially developed Pirelli slick tires.
Moreover, the aerodynamics, leveraging Lamborghini's Squadra Corse GT racing experience, achieve efficiency and downforce levels superior to GT3 machines, generating 1,200 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. The double air intake on the front hood, characteristic of the Huracán racing car with its central rib, separates the flow of hot air from the radiators, channeling cool air from the roof-mounted air scoop.
The front features a splitter and two lateral elements, while the airflow for engine and gearbox cooling on the sides is optimized using vertical fins positioned on the sills. The aerodynamic package is completed by a large, adjustable double-profile rear wing.
Exterior and Interior Design by Lamborghini's Centro Stile
The design is the work of Centro Stile, the design department that has been responsible for all racing cars produced by Lamborghini since the establishment of Squadra Corse. Its fluid yet dynamic lines, blending the allure of 1970s prototypes with elements symbolizing Lamborghini's DNA, feature hexagonal motifs in the headlights, roof air scoop, and air vents surrounding the steering wheel. Furthermore, the symbolic Y-shape design, repeated in the car's livery and cockpit interior, represents the exquisite balance of lightness, functionality, and design in each element.
The instrument panel and dashboard are supported by an asymmetrical Y-shaped carbon structure that encircles the cockpit, providing load-bearing capacity and stylistic elements, designed to place the driver at the center of the ultimate driving experience.
The multi-function steering wheel with display is inspired by F1 steering wheels, offering a futuristic and ergonomic design that allows the driver to achieve optimal ergonomics and perfect control without removing their hands from the rim.
The custom OMP seats, FIA-approved, feature carbon shells that envelop the driver, providing comfort, safety, and stability.
Owners Granted Membership to Exclusive Club with Special Program Access
Owners of the Essenza SCV12 will receive membership to an exclusive club, granting them access to special programs where they can drive their hypercars on some of the world's premier circuits. This program includes storage services at a newly established facility at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory, specifically for the Essenza SCV12 Club. Each car will be housed in a private garage, complete with dedicated services such as a webcam system allowing owners to monitor their vehicle 24/7 via an app.
Additionally, the facility features the "Lamborghini Squadra Corse Drivers Lab," managed by fitness professionals from Tecnobody, offering fitness training programs similar to those used by Lamborghini's official racing drivers.
The program is scheduled to commence in 2021, alongside "arrive and drive" events held at numerous FIA Grade 1 circuits. Participants will be supported by Squadra Corse technical staff, as well as Emanuele Pirro, a five-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner renowned for his driving instruction, and Marco Mapelli, a factory driver for Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali commented, "The Essenza SCV12 perfectly embodies the ultimate circuit driving experience that our brand can offer, representing a technical feat that highlights the intimate relationship between a Lamborghini machine and the asphalt. While Lamborghini is a brand that constantly looks to the future and embraces new challenges, we never forget our roots or our identity. The Essenza SCV12 is the perfect fusion of our unbound spirit as a supercar manufacturer and our unwavering passion for motorsport."
