The EQS SUV Model, "EQS SUV," Makes Its Debut

Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced the luxury SUV electric vehicle "EQS SUV" and commenced sales.

Achieves a Cd Value of 0.26 Despite Being an SUV

The SUV model of the luxury BEV "EQS," announced in 2022, has arrived as the "EQS SUV."

Like the "EQS," the "EQS SUV" is built on a dedicated platform. Its styling, with features like a cab-forward design, significantly differs from internal combustion engine vehicles, while also creating an interior space where seven adults can comfortably relax.

The body dimensions are 5,130mm in length, 2,035mm in width, and 1,725mm in height. By leveraging the dedicated platform and the unique packaging of a BEV for its exterior design, it achieves a drag coefficient (Cd value) of 0.26, a noteworthy point for an SUV.

The exterior features the "Black Panel" characteristic of the EQ series on the front. This, along with the left and right headlights connected by a light band and the daytime running lights composed of three small triangles, defines its styling.

Furthermore, this Black Panel unit not only serves as an exterior design element but also functions as a cover for the various sensors of the driver assistance systems, such as ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and radar, located behind it.

The rear also features a continuous light band, emphasizing its design as a Mercedes EQ model.

Turning to the interior, the first element that captures attention is the "MBUX Hyperscreen," standard on the "EQS 580 4MATIC SUV Sport" and optional on the "EQS 450 4MATIC SUV."

This is a wide screen that covers the entire dashboard, integrating three high-definition panels for the cockpit display, central controls, and even an OLED media display for the front passenger. It allows for operation of various functions like climate control and driving settings, and the front passenger can enjoy diverse entertainment even while driving.

Meanwhile, the left and right air outlets are designed to resemble jet engine turbines, creating a playful design that coexists with the MBUX, which utilizes both analog and cutting-edge digital technology.

The interior can accommodate seven occupants. The second-row seats come standard with an electric slide function for 130mm fore-and-aft movement, ensuring ample legroom. The backrests are also equipped with an electric recline function.

Additionally, the third-row seats, equipped with seat heaters, are also standard and are raised from the luggage room floor for use.

The second-row seats can also be folded down, expanding the luggage capacity to a maximum of 880 liters. Even with the third-row seats in use, 195 liters of space is available.

The powertrain features electric powertrains on both the front and rear axles. The "EQS 450 4MATIC SUV" delivers a maximum output of 265 kW (360 hp) and 800 Nm of torque, while the "EQS 580 4MATIC SUV Sport" produces 400 kW (544 hp) and 858 Nm. It drives all four wheels.

The lithium-ion battery capacity is 107.8 kWh. The driving range in WLTC mode is 593 km for the "EQS 450 4MATIC SUV" and 589 km for the "EQS 580 4MATIC SUV Sport."

A special feature for the Japanese market is the adoption of bidirectional charging, which allows power to be supplied externally. It can serve as a storage device for electricity generated by household solar power systems, and can also be used as a backup power source to supply electricity to a home during a power outage.

The price of the EQS SUV is 15.42 million yen for the "EQS 450 4MATIC SUV" and 19.90 million yen for the "EQS 580 4MATIC SUV Sport."
