V12 Twin-Turbo Mid-Ship Racer
On June 27th, Aston Martin unveiled the virtual machine "Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Racer," scheduled for release in "Gran Turismo 6" in July, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed held in West Sussex, UK.
The DP-100, revealed for the first time on this day, is a special machine developed by Aston Martin for the "Vision Gran Turismo" collaboration project with "Gran Turismo 6," a game software for the "PlayStation 3" released by Sony Computer Entertainment last year.
The "Vision Gran Turismo" is a dream project where major global automobile manufacturers specially design drivable special machines within the game to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo series. Previously,Mercedes-BenzandBMW,Volkswagen,Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi have unveiled their machines and have already begun distribution.
The DP-100 announced by Aston Martin this time was developed from a completely blank slate. It is said to be not only beautiful, as befits Aston Martin, but also incorporates advanced engineering. One such innovation is the adoption of a mid-ship layout for the first time. While Aston Martin has traditionally embodied the British sports car ethos with a front-engine, rear-drive powertrain, the DP-100 marks the company's first mid-ship machine.

Design Cues Hint at Aston Martin's Future
The engine, a V12 twin-turbo mounted longitudinally behind the cabin, is set to produce 800ps. This is undoubtedly the highest specification in Aston Martin's 100-year history. The DP-100 was developed using the same methods as Aston Martin's other production models, with specialists handling not only rendering and 3D modeling but also the selection of materials and colors, just as they would for a real car.
The body design features a futuristic form with revolutionary "active aerodynamics" that prioritize airflow, while elements like the blade-shaped taillights can be seen as an evolution of the design language found in current Aston Martin models.
These distinctive design cues, similar to those seen in the concept car "CC100 Speedster" unveiled last year, hold the potential to be reflected in future production models. "This 'DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo' project holds immeasurable importance for the future of Aston Martin," stated Marek Reichman.
Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the "Gran Turismo" series, who saw the car for the first time at Aston Martin's headquarters in Gaydon, UK, commented, "I was speechless at the sheer perfection of the design. I was greatly surprised by the bold proposal of a mid-ship layout, a first for Aston Martin. It was simultaneously elegant and emotional, true to Aston Martin's character, and I could see the future of Aston Martin with its clean, meticulous details that look as if they could be put into production immediately."
Aston Martin first debuted in the "Gran Turismo" series with the "DB7" and "DB7 Volante," and has since been a long-time supporter of "Gran Turismo." The limited edition model "One-77", released in 2011, is also drivable in "Gran Turismo 6," highlighting the exceptionally deep relationship between the two.
It is only natural, then, that the "DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Racer," Aston Martin's first-ever mid-ship machine, has chosen "Gran Turismo 6" as its exclusive stage.
