Volvo V40 Series Debuts First Special Edition Models

On the 24th, Volvo Car Japan announced the release of two special edition models for the compact hatchback "V40" series: the "V40 T4 Sports" and the "V40 Cross Country T4 Nordic." Each will be sold in a limited run of 200 units.

First Front-Wheel Drive "V40 Cross Country"

The Volvo "V40," which arrived in Japan last February,V40was reborn from its traditional wagon style into a sporty hatchback. It garnered attention for its premium compact status, featuring Volvo's signature 10 safety and driver-assist features, including a pedestrian airbag and the "Human Safety" autonomous braking system utilizing multiple sensors.

Now, the V40 and its SUV-derived model, theV40 Cross Country, are introducing their first special edition variants. Two models will be offered: the "V40 T4 Sports," which enhances its sporty impression, and the "V40 Cross Country T4 Nordic," the first front-wheel-drive model in the V40 Cross Country lineup.

Both models are equipped with the "T4 engine," a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged unit. It produces a maximum output of 132 kW (180 ps) at 5,700 rpm and a peak torque of 240 Nm (24.5 kgm) between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The V40 T4 Sports is based on the V40 T4 SE, the higher trim level of the V40 T4. The exterior features a styling kit with striking red accent lines and larger, custom-designed 18-inch cast alloy wheels, enhancing its performance look. Additionally, it includes popular options like the navigation package and rear-view camera. It is available in two body colors: Ice White and Black Sapphire Metallic.

The "V40 Cross Country T4 Nordic," on the other hand, is positioned as the entry-level model for the "V40 Cross Country." Its exterior design, with a 30mm higher overall height than the V40, offers an SUV-like stance and is available in four colors: Black Sapphire Metallic, Raw Copper Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, and Ice White. The interior features textile material with a fresh, denim-like texture for the seats and door trims, and includes a power-adjustable passenger seat, emphasizing practicality and ride comfort.

Furthermore, a campaign is being held where customers who place an order and complete registration for either model by Monday, June 30, 2014, will receive thePolestar Performance Package(¥205,715 value) as a gift.

This package, named after Polestar Racing, Volvo's official motorsport and customization partner, boosts the maximum output by 15 kW to 147 kW (200 ps) at 5,750 rpm and increases the peak torque by 45 Nm to 285 Nm between 2,000 and 4,250 rpm.

Sales for both models are limited to 200 units each. The "V40 T4 Sports" is priced at ¥3.79 million, and the "V40 Cross Country T4 Nordic" is ¥3.80 million.
